in season: the lightweight jacket

short jacket over tunic

A lightweight jacket is an indispensable wardrobe item during warm seasons, but the right one can be hard to find. I’ve had a checklist that includes: not black, not a suit jacket, interesting details, softly structured shape. This “Street Style Jacket” from Stella Carakasi hits all of those marks, with the added bonus of being machine washable! Made from hemp and tencel, this unlined jacket is breathable and has nice movement and drape. I decided to play up the asymmetrical design elements on the jacket with a longer asymmetrical hem tunic. Jacket provided by Stella Carakasi; I’m wearing the XS. I chose the “Almond” color, but it’s also available in Platinum (a light, soft grey) and Pacific (a soft navy).

Launched in 2012, Stella Carakasi strives to create flattering and affordable women’s designer wear, incorporating more sustainable natural fabrics. The company is headquartered in Berkeley, California, and there’s definitely an easy California attitude to these designs.

If you prefer a longer jacket, check out the “Northpoint” and “Fair Game” jackets, both of which also feature asymmetrical details.

  1. That jacket looks great on you and love the way you styled the entire outfit! I’m curious to know what you thought about the kimono style linen jacket from Eileen Fisher you mentioned having on order in a recent post … haven’t seen a followup post on it yet.

  2. I looked for a long while for a light weight jacket– found one that I love! It was not expensive. It’s a denim, moto-style, shorter piece that works over sleeveless (i’m a little conscious of my upper arms) for dresses, maxi dresses (super cute), or jeans and a tee.

  3. Great jacket! Like a Perfecto, almost, but in fabric instead of leather. With that color, it’s a good thing it’s washable.
The asymmetrical top is long enough that it looks balanced and calculated.

  4. Boy, you have been so on target with your ensembles! Love this jacket, and all the elements. Your medallions–the wearing of two disparate but complementary ones is so casually stylish.

Also great bag, bangle and what I can see of the watch. Would you ever consider doing a post on your watch collection, if you haven’t already done so? I love watches of all kinds, and like the way you put yours and your other jewelry together with your outfits

  5. I love the loose but chic-ish (?) structure of the not-quite-white jacket, especially worn with the sloped hem of the tunic. Such a visually interesting combo, played up even more with the simple colours. And the brown bag really ties in with the almond. Oh yes. Looking good.
