et voilà!

Givenchy Pandora Pure, Stuart Weitzman sandals

I’ve been meaning to do a bit of cleanup of the blog format for some time, but decided to go for a full makeover. I chose this format as I believe it’s easier to read, hope you agree. I purchased a theme from pipdig based on the features and rave reviews and have to say that I’m loving it so far. It was easy to install and customize. I’m still working on some image sizing on older posts, and adding some elements here and there. Just a couple of navigation notes:

  • on the main page, links for comments can now be found at the bottom of each post.
  • I’ve moved the Outfits and Travel Wardrobe sections to the navigation bar at the top of the page
  • There’s now a handy “return to top of page” arrow that will display in the lower right-hand corner once you’ve scrolled down. (LOVE this feature!)

The photo above was taken behind the Walt Disney Concert Hall in downtown Los Angeles over the weekend. We had some fun exploring after stopping in at the Advanced Style book signing at MOCA. (More on that tomorrow!) It was a slightly chilly day with a brisk breeze and that bit of sunshine felt good! Am wearing:

earrings | scarf (similar)| top (similar) | jacket | jeans | bag | sandals

Even though the jeans were a petite size, I had them shortened a little to hit right above the ankle, which I’m finding is my preferred length for slimmer pants.

Hope you like the new look, and that your week is off to a good start!

I don’t like the fact that I can’t enlarge the pictures, therefore we can’t see your outfit that well.

Your blog seems brighter and lighter. I like it.

Very nice! I particularly like that you changed the font for the names of commenters – I couldn’t read the earlier one very well! :0)

This new format looks wonderful, Sue. I’ve been playing around with the idea, know I need to change my own format, but am so tentative because I’m on my own with tech issues… no one to yell “help” to if I mess it up!
Your new format looks sleek and chic….just like your outfit:)

I feel the same way as Susan — I love what you’ve done here, Sue, and I keep thinking I need to revamp, but wow! it’s a pretty scary concept without back-up tech support.

I absolutely agree with rose! photos that can’t be enlarged so we can look at detail make me sad. if you have control over this aspect of the design, please change it! the rest looks good.

Love the new format, Susan. I am in the process of redoing my site too – so many format choices out there!
    I adore those shoes…beautiful outfit!
Hope all is well. Looking forward to reading about Advanced Style!

Bonjour to one of my very favorite bloggers!
Nice new format, but PLEASE allow photos to be enlarged. Zooming in on an image allows me to view the details and is probably my number one priority in a fashion or lifestyle blog. Otherwise, to me, there’s no point in posting photos at all.
    Thanks!

Hi Peg, thanks and I’m looking into this, will try to resolve!

Long time reader, first time commenter. I have to say I am liking this new format, much brighter and the tabs on the top of the page look like they will be easy to use. I have to tell you Susan, I come to your site every time I make a trip out of town, it helps me remember that I don’t need to pack every thing I own to make it through a weekend away. So Thanks!!

I was hoping you and your wonderful community could help me with a style crisis. During the week for work I lean more toward Pinterest inspired French style, think striped shirts, white button ups with a blazer, skinny black jeans with a bootie, my favorite colors lean towards darker shades of grey (no not 50 of them 🙂 lol). On the weekends I find myself wearing more rock climber, hiker, yogi style clothes (think Patagonia, Columbia, Parna, etc) and I starting to feel the strain of a rather schizophrenic wardrobe. I live in a rural area known for it’s climbing opportunities (I don’t climb due to physical limitations), camping, skiing and basically all things outdoors. My dilemma is that sometimes I don’t feel that my work wardrobe works well for the weekends (I feel a bit too overdressed) but I’m tired of dressing down all the time too. How can I incorporate some of my favorite French style into my weekend without feeling out of place?

Well…..when it comes into my email box, the writing is so tiny that it is hard to read. Seems also that getting to the actual blog website via the email is now two steps not one. Otherwise, it is just a change to get used to. Not sure yet where the old articles are…I use them. Not sure where the search function is either as I use that often too. Miss the script writing! Otherwise…if you are happy; I am happy!

  17. May 2, 2016 / 7:51 am

It looks bright and fresh! Great looking. I need an update. I’ll check out their templates. Thanks for the recommendation. You look great, BTW.

Pretty darned upset that I can’t have those shoes!! Very difficult to find exciting shoes for my 11 AAA. Stuart Weitzman used to be my go-to brand, but they’re not offering as much for for long and narrow feet as they used to. Waaaaahhh….

Layout looks much sleeker! Like Patricia and others above, I found the script font very hard to read so this is a welcome change. Love your outfit here – I think I need a bright red bag in my life! The Givenchy is gorgeous but a bit pricey! Lots of choice here in Paris though.

I like the new format and the font is easier to read. As some mentioned, your header is showing as a broken link and your top navigation is sitting on top of the header. I was going to send you an image so you can see but your link in your contact tab goes to your Pinterest. I am running Safari 9.1.

  25. May 2, 2016 / 10:09 am

Looks fabulous…open airy and easy to read.
It would be a scary project for me to take on with my limited tech experience…but worth considering.

You outfit looks great as usual. I often think some of your items aren’t worth the price. However, they do prompt me to find something similar at a more reasonable price. With this outfit, two items are “misses” in my book. I’m surprised about a silk tee. I don’t like wearing silk casually. Too delicate and requires dry cleaning. And, the silk tee adds significantly to the price of the outfit. I’m also surprised at the price point for the scarf. You could find something equally lovely and more practical at a fraction of the price. Sorry–just had to say it.

    • May 2, 2016 / 11:11 am

Just a quick note on silk – it absolutely does not require dry cleaning, in fact, dry cleaning ruins silk over time! Hand washing is much preferred (I put mine in the washing machine on cold delicate, lay flat to dry, with excellent results).

And I think Susan will back me up on this: Eileen Fisher silk tanks and tees wear like iron. Silk knit is an absolutely lovely everyday luxury!

      May 2, 2016 / 12:13 pm

Hi Lynn, the silk jersey tops are actually hand-washable (line dry) and wear like iron. I usually pack one or two of these tops for travel.

Also, I find silk responds well to climate: it’s warm when I need warmth, and cool when I don’t. Very versatile. Plus: no bulk!

Like the font, love the blog, but getting no header, just your navigation bar on top and an empty box below it. I also agree with other commenters – I’d like to be able to expand photos. Change is always bumpy, but good on you for taking the leap. Cheers and thanks for your always interesting and inspiring point of view.

My last comment on this. After posting the comment above, I went back to the link to the silk top at Nordstrom. I was thinking of buying it. However, it does say Dry Clean under Details and Care.

    • Susan B
      May 2, 2016 / 1:38 pm

Hi Lynn, I’ve always hand washed my EF silk tops without any problems.

    • May 2, 2016 / 7:23 pm

Lynn, I don’t know if this will help or not, but I once heard that most better clothing lines use Dry Clean as a default on their washing instructions. It doesn’t mean the item can’t be hand washed but it protects the company if the wearer doesn’t wash properly and then tries to blame them. Hard to mess up “Dry Clean Only.” It’s a shame because dry cleaning is so toxic and, in my opinion, best avoided.

  32. May 2, 2016 / 3:50 pm

Love the new look! Even works on my phone 🙂

  33. May 2, 2016 / 4:14 pm

Eileen Fisher silk washes like a dream. Bless Susan for introducing me to EF which is now the foundation of my wardrobe. By the way…I now carry a lovely Balenciaga bag because Susan looked so chic with it and although it was expensive, had I bought it 20 years ago I’d be ahead in money! Like Mom used to say….buy the best; it’s cheaper in the long run!

Hi Susan, I like the new clean look. However, on my iPad I can’t use “reader view” with this layout. I always used it to enlarge the text on your old blog. The new format won’t allow me to zoom in / enlarge text OR photos…my vision is not the greatest and I imagine others might have the same need.
If this is something you can adjust, that would be great. If not, I’ll power through with a magnifying glass because I enjoy your blog so much. Thanks for all your hard work putting it together!

And I first noticed your outfit in the picture of you with Ari, but I’ll comment here: home run! The red scarf makes it (and you can tell by the smile on your face how happy you are, which doesn’t hurt :))
