pink peonies

Peonies are one of my favorite things about May. These have been star performers.

I’m working on a travel-related post that I hope to have finished soon. I’m in the process of clearing the decks of a final few work projects to be able to focus on planning our upcoming trip, and look forward to sharing some of those plans over the next few weeks.

We’re scheduled to visit jeune homme this weekend for the first time since his move to the group home four weeks ago. All reports have been good, and we’re told he’s been adjusting well and seems happy. Fingers crossed!

For a #TBT, here’s a post about my Grandmother, who was always an adventurer and quite the traveler.

Hope your week is going well!

  1. I am on my second trip to France and used your European trip packing list. Two carry on size bags got me through 3 weeks. The second time I added a little more style to my choices. Thank you and looking forward to more posts. Love the flowers

  2. I’ve been thinking of your son and hoping all was going well. Thank you for the update. I hope you have a good visit with him.

Your grandmother sounds like an interesting person! It is unfortunate it was difficult to get to know her better. I was able to spend a lot of time with both my grandmothers as I was growing up, but now that they are both dead and I am an adult, I find there is so much more I want to know about them. One of my grandmas was a bit glamorous. She worked in a factory and also labored tirelessly to keep her home and yard spotless, so most of the time she was dressed in work clothes, but for the holidays she always put on festive clothing, wore large costume jewelry, and sometimes even wore a turban over her hair. I loved rummaging through her jewelry box , which she always let me do, and I even tried lipstick for the very first time under her supervision when I was 8 years old. She said it made my eyes sparkle.

  3. I hope your visit goes well and if it’s going to be stressful, well – better for you than for him.

  4. Have a wonderful visit, Susan. So glad to hear things are going well with him. This is a great scarf…I even thought it was a poncho at first….and it looks perfect with the French Kande jewelry!

  5. Gorgeous flowers! From your comment about performance, I assume they are from your garden? Just stunning. I love peonies. The post about your Grandmother is a great read. I hope your weekend visit is filled with confirmation that your son is indeed happy and doing well. Using your packing list to get ready for a trip in June and it’s been invaluable since I haven’t travelled to Europe in well over a decade.

  6. your peonies made my day! Here in Chicago, we’re barely out of winter jackets and the peonies are tightly closed and shivering in my side yard…

  7. Beautiful peonies – wonderful scent, although you have to be careful not to snort an earwig when sniffing! Fantastic story about your grandmother – there is so so much we will never know about those close to us just as there is so much more to each of us than our nearest and dearest will ever discover! A bit sad really….
