One of our favorite shops to visit in Paris is the Boutique Maille Paris on place de la Madeleine. We discovered it on one of our first Paris visits, and now make a point to get there whenever we are in town. They have an amazing assortment of mustards, vinegars, and other condiments, including fresh mustards “on tap,” poured into these ceramic jars and sealed with a cork and parchment paper. We always pick up a jar of the Chablis mustard, my favorite. Locals bring the empty clean jars back for refills, but we’ve picked up a fresh one each time and find they make lovely casual vases.
Maille also has boxed assortments of small jars of flavored mustards which make great gifts, and they’ll wrap everything in padding for the trip home. Mustards, vinegars and oils are all considered liquids, and must be stowed in checked luggage. We’ll often stuff smaller items inside of shoes or sealed in ziplock bags and then wrapped in bundles of clothes. We haven’t had one break yet.
These variegated roses are from our garden (I don’t know the variety) and the fragrance is intoxicating.
Kelli from Parisian’s Pure Indulgence very kindly sent me several of her organic skincare products to try. My favorite so far is this antioxidant night cream, which not only moisturizes, but also feels very cooling and soothing going on. It does have a little bit of fragrance, but it’s calming and natural smelling.
Peaky Blinders is back! Season 3 is now available in the U.S. on Netflix. We’ve watched the first episode, and it’s compelling, though a little difficult to follow between the time jump and plot developments from the last season (this one picks up two years after Season 2) and the heavily accented dialog. The costumes and sets are fabulous, and I’m sure as with prior episodes, more will become clear as we get a few episodes in.
I’ll be out doing some Eyewear Research today with my good friend D. She always has the coolest specs, and knows the good shops. Can’t wait!

I love it that you have a favorite shop in Paris that you always visit. We are like that with Santa Fe–certain places we always go.
We wrap up wine bottles in cardboard cartons, with lots and lots of tape. Then into a plastic bag, just in case. No accidents yet, knock on wood.
What a great way to keep Paris in your daily life, and I love that ceramic vase — it grounds that rose’s flamboyance perfectly. I’m looking forward to seeing your new specs. Frame-shopping is in my near future, and I always find it challenging.

I’m pretty sure that rose is called Scentimental. I had it at one of my houses, and I miss it….so beautiful scent and colors.

One thing about being a certain age is that my eye wear wardrobe has expanded. I’ve got sunglasses, progressives for general wear, glasses to wear while working on my PC (set to focus at about an 18 inch distance), AND reading glasses for hard-core reading.
Not every pair needs to be a statement, but I want all to be flattering.
Just returned from London where Waitrose was selling Maille mustard for only 1 pound ($1.45) a jar. Unfortunately, I was not checking luggage…but I was sorely tempted considering the cost of it here in the US.
Maille now has a shop in NYC, not far from Union Square. I walked by it last week. The mustard is easily available in most markets and isn’t that expensive. I love the jars too.

So glad you are enjoying the “Age Defy” Antioxidant night creme. Please know it is very lightly scented in Lavender Essential Oils (from France 🙂 only. Why? Because lavender is very calming and soothing, and perfect to use at night.
I love that you re-purposed the mustard jar into a vase. What a great idea! Your roses are lovely too. It’s been such a great Spring for our roses here in Southern California, hasn’t it? My favorite in my garden, is my white, with a hint of pink on the edges, John F. Kennedy rose. Very fragrant too!
I have an old French mustard jar similar to yours. I will start putting flowers in it as you have done. It looks so pretty!
You must set up subtitles when you watch Peaky. Haven’t started the new season yet. Can’t wait.

We can buy the Maille products in Montréal too, maybe because so many “français de France” as they are called here, live in our city.
The roses are beautiful! Gorgeous. I’ve missed Peaky Blinders but have heard good things – need to catch-up.
When I flew for Pan Am, we always offered Maille’s Original Dijon Mustard with the roast beef we cooked and served in first class, and I’ve been hooked on that mustard since then. Maille now offers many different mustards as well as vinegars and other condiments, most if not all of which can be purchased directly from Maille’s U.S. website, at http://www.maille.com (where a jar of the Original Dijon Mustard, for example, costs $7.00 and shipping costs start at $4.95). Although I now purchase their products through that website, I still stop by the Boutique Maille Paris store on every visit…a fascinating emporium!
