Stripes Of All Types

bold and subtle striped tops

I’ve rarely met a stripe I didn’t like. Whether it’s a classic marinière, or something modern, to me they are at once both iconic and fresh. Though stripes are often associated with Resort or Spring/Summer styles, I believe they’re season-less, and can perk up a Winter wardrobe. They’re easy to incorporate with other patterns, or can breathe life into your solid separates.

Thanks to Bergdorf Goodman for their sponsorship of this post. All words, ideas and opinions are my own.

If you’re skittish about wearing stripes, how about a bold striped bag

and if you really want to make an entrance….

See, stripes and leopard prints go together beautifully!

I’ve always thought of Bergdorf Goodman as a prime destination for designer goods, and they often have the most sought-after pieces first. In addition to premium designers, they carry a wide range of brands including Vince, Theory, AG, IRO, J Brand, and many more. They offer free shipping and free returns. And if you’re in New York, be sure to check out Bergdorf’s window displays…always a real treat!

Are you a fan of stripes? What’s your favorite way to wear them?

  1. Stripes are a favorite in my nautical world. The Theory top is gorgeous and the fit very flattering…I want it! Nice post : )

  2. I love stripes, too, even though I don’t currently have a decent marinière.

A recent stripes favorite of mine is a pair of wide-legged white/navy/cream linen trousers I scooped up on sale last summer at Talbot’s. Dear hubby calls them my “prison pants.” 😉

I wear them most often with a long, boat-neck cotton navy sweater. It’s a fabulous cruising and resort piece, and I’ve already gotten my money’s worth out of it.

  3. I just got a great cotton stripe top on Talbot’s Post Christmas markdowns.. it’s black and ivory stripe with a cute little sequin brown fox on the front. The fabric is nice, not stiff cotton like some, it has drape. But not TOO much drape. Not clingy. I am a big fan of a nice fresh stripe top. The stripe has to have some size too it, if it’s too thin, I think it loses the impact.

  4. Must be careful of stripes however….horizontal stripes over your backside, unless you are a very small size, will make you look very wide. Similarly, a large bust or large shoulders don’t benefit from horizontal stripes generally.

  5. Would love the link to the sunglasses, but it currently points to the sandal. Additionally, I agree with the comment about horizontal stripes not benefiting a large bust. I cam never seem to maintain the stripe at the same latitude between front and back. Would love vertical stripes, but these are typically hard to find.

  6. Now THAT’s a pair of shoes!!!!! J’adore!!!!! I’ll wait for a sale,,,The striped Theory top is gorgeous and would flatter many body types! Super choices!!

  7. Love stripes. I generally I wear stripes on a tee but currently I also have a pair of shoes as well. I go to Uniqlo who have a great selection of colours for both summer and winter.

  8. The Theory top is great ….BUT it’s 190 dollars. I work in Euros or Pounds…whatever…it’s still a lot but want it desperately. I need a mortgage….how would that go down at the bank!!
