A Few Spring Things

spring blooms

Whether you’re already experiencing some springlike weather or are still deep in the grip of winter, it’s a good time to assess and update your transitional season wardrobe, as spring collections have begun hitting the shelves. It’s been my experience in the past couple of years that retailers don’t stock deeply for this season, and some of the best spring styles can sell out quickly.

v-neck linen sweater, spring styles available now

A lightweight sweater is a spring must-have for me. V-necks have been hard to come by the past few seasons, so when I spied this one, I ordered. It’s a really lovely piece with a flattering cut. This “blue steel” color is a winner, neutral enough to pair with a lot of other colors, and very pretty as a color accent.

And how great would this necklace look with that sweater?

French Kande bracelet with Marie medallion

Or this bracelet? They’re both from the new “Madeleine” collection from French Kande. Gorgeous!

striped v-neck sweater

While this sweater has some merino wool in the blend, it’s lightweight and perfect for cool-to-mild days. A striped sweater with a v-neck is rarer than hens’ teeth (and a more flattering style for those of us who are busty). If stripes are in your wheelhouse, don’t let this one get away.

If you have spring/summer whites in your wardrobe, how are they holding up? I’ve been hanging onto the same pair of white jeans for the last few years, but I think it’s time to replace them.

released hem white jeans

Now that I’ve crossed the “released hem” bridge, I’m eyeing these. If you prefer a finished hem, here’s another option.

What about your tees?

essential white tee

I find a white tee to be one of the trickiest wardrobe pieces to get right. If you go for opacity, you often sacrifice softness and visa versa. It’s also tough to find one that isn’t cut straight up and down. I have a few-seasons-old version of this tee which is as close as I’ve come to finding the perfect one. It’s held up well, too. Here’s a budget-friendlier option. (I haven’t tried that style in white, so can’t advise regarding the sheerness.)

One of the reasons I have white on the brain is this:

Raf Simons for Calvin Klein

It’s from Raf Simon’s first collection for Calvin Klein (Fall 2017) and I’m enchanted with this color combo. (White and camel with a bright yellow accent.) I am determined to build myself an outfit using this mix.

And speaking of Fall collections, under the heading of “Shut Up And Take My Money…”

J.Crew Fall 2017

I am going to be stalking this cardigan. Stalking, I tell you.

And maybe this gold velvet jacket while I’m at it…

Are you making any wardrobe updates for spring?

  1. There must be yellow in the air, I am thinking! I was admiring a bright ( BRIGHT) yellow bag at a store recently and then found a past season Coach in a bright canary color for half that price at an online source. I proudly plan to wear that with my whites, my bright parrot greens and my navy blues soon.
Also, I love warm sweaters in pretty spring colors. Spring here is still mighty chilly, highs in the 40s and low 50s so a sweater is great layer. I love to shop for cashmere or lightweight merino in pretty color- apricot, lavender, etc. They look great with tan jeans and white bottoms. They also blend well with navy.

The t shirt you show is a fabulous item and in my opinion, well worth the asking price if anyone is hesitating. It’s got a good weight but not too heavy and does not cling . The last thing I want is a clingy t shirt highlighting my soft midsection!

  2. i can’t get used to the look of raw hem jeans. I found a white pair and dark denim pair of cropped AGs without raw hems and I am thrilled. Eileen fisher tee shirts last forever and are definitely worth the price!

  3. I noticed a lot if camel in the fall 2017 runway looks. I have been on the look for the perfect camel jacket. Most are too boxy or loose. The one pictured above would be perfect except for the price. If you find a similar one in the under $300. price range, would you do a post on camel coats?

  4. I wondered, Susan, if the French Kande jewelry is ever found on sale? It is a little cost-prohibitive for me, but I absolutely love it!! I really like all of the pieces your found today!

  5. While the temps are currently in the high 60’s or better this week I know that there is more snow in store for us. I also sit in a spot at work that is constantly cold. I needed to get some spring in my style so wore a navy/white & Yellow swing sweater over a white Tneck one. These topped navy slacks. I’ve gotten 2 compliments this morning about the cheery look. I have a spring in my step this morning. Now if Spring would really get here. Cheers from Denver.

  6. For March, Eileen Fisher has a lovely color called Rain. It’s a soft blue that works perfectly with her Graphite. Check it out!

  7. I very much like white jeans, but where I live (Houston) they just don’t work that well. I feel that March is too early to wear white, and possibly April too…by May, it’s too warm to wear jeans here.

  8. OMG that cardigan with the stars that you are stalking … ME TOO!! When will it be available? Do you know? “Shut up and take my money” indeed!

    1. lynne, all I know is that it’s part of their Fall 2017 collection. So I’d keep an eye out for it starting around August.
