Things That Made Me Happy This Week

simple outfit with a few of my wardrobe favorites

First, this outfit. I threw on a few of my favorites on my way out the door to run errands, and just felt really good in this all day.

Wearing: earrings | top | necklace | ring |
bag (same style, different color) | jeans | shoes

French Kande jewelry, Givenchy bag

Second, I think the heart medicine is helping Coco. We’ve noticed she has more energy and is more like her old perky self the last few days.

Third…

decaf espresso

I love my espresso but stick to decaf in the afternoons and evenings, so was thrilled to see that Nespresso has added an even higher flavor intensity option to their decaf range. (The Arpeggio Decaf was pretty good, but this is even better.)

raw hem jeans, suede mules

Fourth, the increased rainfall we’ve had over the last few months has made my trees very happy. The deciduous crew are already showing off in bright green.

Lars is the Mayor of our block...

Fifth, a visit from Lars.

What little things have brightened your week?

  1. Thank you so much for this post, Susan. It has been a very trying week for me and when that happens I usually forget to be thankful for the ‘small’ things. Thanks for the reminder! What made me happy this week was helping prepare and serve the food for the free meal our church does every Thursday for the community. It is so uplifting to know you are making a difference in someone’s life. And this morning, looking at my lovely green Depression Glass vase full of purple tulips is making me happy!

  2. Seeing Lars again! I love your photos with the photographer around LA but a Lars photobomb makes me smile! oh, and that’s excellent news on the Coco.
Birdsong at dawn always make me happy.

    1. I love critters. Seeing Coco and Lars makes me happy!

So do dry streets free of snow and ice. I rode my bicycle to Old Montréal (the historic district) for a work-related errand. We’re getting a bit of wet slush tonight, but it will melt quickly. So does not being too out of shape for a longer ride than any since the autumn, or climbing some (moderate) hills returning home.

I’m also very glad you are getting some rain, as it has been terribly dry in California.

  3. Hmmm. That first cup of tea in my sunroom, the first morning after we returned from our six week South America adventure. Love to travel. But…wow… do I ever miss those lazy second cup of tea mornings in my slippers and jammies:)

  4. Hillsides and fields of wildflowers (the latter near Antelope Valley –10 miles further than the Poppy Preserve, the former at Cannel Creek trail above Kernville on the Kern river)-amazing views and beauty!
Wildflowers are evanescent but fields and hillsides of them–gorgeous vistas and exception beauty up close–

glad re your Coco and cute picture of Lars!
thanks for posting the question about what brightened the week!

  5. Great outfit! I’d feel terrific in that all day too. Love those jeans, Susan. You’re the one who converted my thinking on raw edge jeans, so thank you. Have a great Friday.

  6. Six beautiful white roses I bought instead of chocolate at Aldi’s for $3.99. They have lasted all week and are still beautiful after I cut the stems again & peeled the outer layers of the blossom. Simple pleasures… Thanks for the reminder Susan!

  7. You look so chic to be out running errands! We just bid goodbye to the 600 bee hives that have been out in our farm yard off and on since almond bloom. They are amazing creatures and we are thankful for their pollinating duties, but when you have red hair, they think your head is a flower, and are not pleased to find out it is not! They will be back next January, when we will be happy to see them again, but for now I’d like to get to planting my summer garden unmolested by swarms of bees. It is also very green here in central CA. So grateful for this rainy winter for so many reasons.

  8. Those animal print Munro shoes make me happy. Another to-buy item that I’ve found on your blog! Thanks.

The wisteria in full bloom along my back fence makes me happy as well.

  9. Completing our timber and concrete insert patio and surviving to tell the tale (we’re both 60+) My lovely man always chuckles when I still insist on putting my face and earrings on knowing that a very unladylike ‘glow’ will ensue!

  10. Visit to MOCA today to check out Kerry James Marshall retrospective made me very happy! ❤‍

  11. Sunshine has literally and metaphorically brightened my week. I thought the rain would never end. I love how you have paired the rich caramel accessories with the black outfit. It looks like the perfect stay-comfortable-look-fabulous outft for running around.
