Some Old, Some New

casual outfit with duster cardigan and layered necklaces

So yes, some of these items probably look familiar. When I find pieces or combinations that work, I wear the heck out of them. This long linen cardigan is one of those. I bought it a couple of years ago, and it’s held up quite well.

long necklace (c/o) | jeans (similar) | bracelet | bag | shoes

French Kande necklaces

But what I really wanted to show off was this new French Kande necklace (gifted) and bracelet. The necklace features African Opal beads, and a vintage french medallion in a cylinder shape imprinted to look like a train ticket. As with all of the French Kande medallions, this one is a mid-century French design. The chain necklace is from an earlier collection, and it layers nicely with the new one.

Being the coffee hound that I am, I knew I HAD to have a piece with this medallion!

Eileen Fisher heeled peep-toe booties

And these peep-toe booties are a new fave…SO comfortable!

BTW, I keep forgetting to mention…

Clouds Of Sils Maria

If you have not yet seen Clouds of Sils Maria with Juliette Binoche and Kristen Stewart, it’s available on Netflix and really worth watching. Binoche plays an actress who’s coming to terms with aging, not so much in the context of whether she’s still attractive but whether she’s still relevant. It’s no longer a given that she’ll be able to get the kind of roles she wants, and she’s grappling with her (reluctantly) evolving sense of self. The story also deals with the modern concept of “celebrity,” and how it plays into perceptions of relevance. I don’t want to spill too much, but there’s an interesting parallel arc between the characters in this story and characters in a play she’s rehearsing. Some beautiful scenery, and dryly funny bits. There’s even a short cameo by Caroline de Maigret.

If you’ve celebrating Easter, I hope you have a wonderful day. Bon weekend!

  1. Dear Susan, I want to thank you for your blog. I love the way you think about your style and share it with us. Your hair always looks great, but I particularly love it in this photo. I don’t normally comment, but wanted you to know I appreciate your work. Regan

  2. Speaking of the amazing Juliette B, we will be keeping our Easter tradition of watching Chocolat this weekend. A beautiful message of love, kindness, tolerance, and understanding. And then we’ll eat some high quality chocolate!

As a PSA, Nordstrom Rack has some great Aquatalia on super sale this weekend.

And, finally, a question for our guru Susan: Is there any different between Aquatalia and Aquatalia by Marvin K??

Thanks for all the inspo every week.

    1. Hi Ann, I believe they’re one and the same. My guess is some marketing person told them to drop Marvin from the name. 😉

  3. Without a doubt, the top photo is one of my favorites of you. The look is great, and a beautiful capture. It’s the image I shared in my weekly business newsletter too. Like you, I love just a splash of leopard as an accent. Classic!

  4. You might check out Rendezvous, a film from the eighties, staring Juliette Binoche. It was the genesis of Clouds of Sils Maria.

  5. A belated thank you for introducing me to those wonderful Eileen Fisher bootie/ sandals. After seeing them on you a couple of weeks ago, I just had to have them….love them. As you say, they are truly comfortable. But they also work well I my mid-Atlantic climate.
