Transitional Season Pieces

Despite our ongoing heatwave, I’ve had this cotton sweater on the brain and wanted to check it out during the J.Crew Labor Day promotion. 30% off with code YESPLEASE, still good through the end of the day today (9/4). I loved the color but was worried it would be too boxy or bulky. Not at all! The fit is nice, neither too snug nor oversized, and I adore that neckline. Very Audrey. The fabric is soft and not too heavy. The sweater runs true-to-size, and if you prefer a more slouchy look you can size up. I purchased in both the Spice and Navy. I may go back for that Liberty Print bandana.

Burgundy cloth moto jacket from Club Monaco. Details at une femme d'un certain age.

Club Monaco is also having a Fall Style Event: a progressive discount from 20-30% off with code FALL17. Good through the end of day today, 9/4. I tried on this lightweight cloth moto jacket in burgundy, and really liked it. I think it runs a little small; the Medium fit me best.

Embroidered velvet mules from Sam Edelman. Details at une femme d'un certain age.

And these embroidered mules also made my heart go pitter-patter. From Sam Edelman, who also is running a Labor Day promotion: 20% off sitewide with code LDW20. They run true-to-size, and a little wide. Edited to add: this particular style seems to be excluded from the promotion, but is still pretty reasonably priced.

Temperatures are supposed to drop a few degrees today, and stay a bit cooler for the next few days. Fingers crossed!

  1. Thanks for featuring the sweater. I had been thinking about a cotton sweater but hadn’t seen any necklines I was wild about. I just ordered the one in navy.
It’s a beautiful day in the Mid-Atlantic, and I’m spending my day unpacking from a few days of camping and getting ready for back-to-work after a glorious week+ off. A post-camping mani/pedi would be a very good idea.

  2. Sorry to tell you but it appears those gorgeous Sam Edelman shoes are not part of the 20% off sale. I still may get them, however…

  3. Thank you for Charity Navigator. Donating to a cause is always a mystery as one does not know where the money actually goes.
Also thank you for showcasing the embroidered mules. They are swe-eet!

  4. Those mules are stunning. I was debating on that sweater and had saved it in my cart. Thanks for the push! 😉 What an awful heat wave we’ve had in SoCal. Like you, I’m ready for fall (or sweater weather, as it’s known in our part of the state).

  5. Ah Susan! I lost my job in January (after 29 years) and so have no funds for any kind for clothing purchases! (Although I did take a trip to Paris in April … I had six months of severance. Who knows when I can go again!)

  6. Hi Susan….Thanks for the updates, those mules are lovely….as is the sweater. So, do tell, did you size up for a more slouchy fit? I ordered both a S and M and cannot decide. Love the spicy color

    1. Hi Angela, thanks! I actually went for the XS, but have decided after trying again I’d prefer a bit slouchier so am going to exchange for the S.

  7. Just had to come say thank you. I ordered the J Crew sweater in Navy; it came this afternoon and it is wonderful! Just as you wrote, neither too slouchy nor too fitted, and the neckline so flattering. Merci mille fois!
