Style Bookshelf: Know Your Style (And A Giveaway!)

Know Your Style by Alyson Walsh. Details at une femme d'un certain age.

I’ve been eagerly anticipating the release of Alyson Walsh’s latest book, Know Your Style. A mix of interviews, inspiration and how-to tips for impactful yet fuss-free style, this book is a fabulous follow-up to Style Forever.

Alyson covers all of the style bases from work to evening to casual wear, and offers some useful tips including how to select and mix accessories, choosing the best shoe styles for pant silhouettes, and on working with a professional stylist.

I love Alyson’s down-to-earth writing and approach to style. Most of all, she makes you feel that being stylish is achievable and within reach of anyone who takes the time to learn and practice it. The artwork by Ayumi Takahashi is charming too.

And I really enjoyed the in-depth interviews with stylish women like Lucinda Chambers, Linda Rodin and Navaz Batliwalla.

  1. My ideal style would be like many older European women…wonderful jacket over a pencil skirt, silk shirt and fabulous heels.

  2. Classics and comfortable, but never boring! An element of the unexpected, usually French inspired. I make many of my own clothes.

  3. Classic, stylish, and elegant. That’s why I ordered Style Forever it arrived yesterday now I need to add this one to my bookshelf as well. Love your style and reading your blog.

  4. Rocker + classic + Hermes

(How many styles do I get?)

But please don’t enter me in the contest — I already have a copy of Alyson’s book and am reading it now and really enjoying it. It’s so beautifully designed.

  5. “Hello, it’s me!”
By way of explanation: Style is how the world sees you. No need to have one if you aren’t out there (“Hello”). Style is how you present yourself, so you want the world to see your best, true self, that you also happen to like (“it’s me”).

  6. Really would love to update my look. I am very classic in my clothes. Don’t like costume jewelry but I know it is very popular, but I only wear real (gold, platinum and sterling) jewelry with real stones and pearls. I would rather have two or three special pieces instead of lots of fun pieces.

  7. I really like a lot of the style descriptions here. I think many of them describe my own style. It would be fun to be able to see each other’s wardrobes!
