I’m on my way home, and still have much more to share from this fabulous week in Paris. While I didn’t pick up on any overarching style trends this time, I did notice a few “micro” trends which I’ll cover over a few posts.
Fall Bag Trends In Paris
Les Parisiennes also seem to be eschewing heavy, large, bulky bags. I noticed many, many women carrying/wearing two smaller bags, frequently some sort of crossbody style, and a second larger, slouchy tote, quite often a simple cloth bag.
I spied some very chic women carrying (or wearing) bags similar to satchel above, a bit more structured, with a flap closure and both a top handle and longer crossbody strap. I really like this look: polished but not fussy.
Here’s a very budget-friendly version in faux leather.
Simple pouch-style crossbody bags were another type I saw frequently. Also noticed a few Céline “Trio” bags.
Slouchy shoulder bags like this one are also seen. They usually aren’t huge, and lay close to the body. I did spot the occasional backpack as well, but less often than the other styles.
I rarely see flashy logo’d designer bags in Paris. Chanel, yes. Hermès, yes. Occasionally Louis Vuitton in a Damier canvas.
Burgundy, red, tan and green (usually a dark green) were the most common alternatives to black. I find both burgundy and dark green to be versatile bag colors. They both look great with other neutrals, but also “play nice” with many other colors.

I bought a burgundy suede crossbody messenger from Zadig and Voltaire last week in Paris…now I feel very on trend.
The second fabric tote is often a shopping bag–we favor reusable ones here and carry them whenever we anticipate grocery or other shopping. I make my own out of upholstery fabrics so they pass the Paris Chic test. 🙂
I never understood why anyone would want to lug a heavy, empty leather bag the size of a small suitcase for daily errands.
After one of your posts earler in the fall, I bought a small red crossbody with just enough room for the essentials. Love it, saves my neck and shoulders. Love the brown satchel you showed in this post.
I bought a cross body bag for my recent trip to Paris, and I find myself still using it now that I’ve returned home. Grocery shopping is much easier when I’m not having to keep one eye on my purse in the cart. I also have a tendency to cart around way too much stuff when I have a big bag.
I bought an earlier version (five years ago??) of that Kate Spade bag. Have used it on every trip and just love it! Nice to know it’s still being made and still in style!
I have always preferred smaller bags. Bought an olive green this fall and love its neutrality. I must admit that I hate changing bags every day and prefer a neutral that works with most items in my closet.

My other go-to bag is the Lo and Sons Pearl. I have it in red and light grey saffiano leather. I’m going to Paris for the first time as an adult next month! So excited!
This bag is sold out on the Nordstrom site, but available in 3 colors on amazon. I considered buying it, but it won’t stand up on its own, at least that is what it looks like. Correct me if I’m wrong, une femme.
Hi Violeta, if you’re referring to the Sam Edelman bag, I haven’t seen it in person, but from the shape it doesn’t look as though it would stand up on its own. I’ve also updated the link to another retailer where it’s available.
I love that forest green we are seeing this season. I’d like to find a winter coat that colour, or if not in a deep red. Brights aren’t practical for our long winters, but I’m so sick of endless black coats!
I do need some kind of bag that is large enough to carry a bit of (grocery and other practical) shopping on the métro or walking home, but certainly not in a heavy leather material.

Fortunately I am very well stocked on bags as there is my curfew on spending. I do think back a lot to that black leather parka we saw in the shop window somewhere in the Marais. No use of course haha.

Have been wearing a smallish crossbody bag and a soft fabric tote for years now. My totes are mostly the Vanessa Bruno cabas (have different colours, depending on what I’m earing – charcoal, black, navy, red, beige animal print, even orange) preferably in linen but sometimes in canvas. They’re fairly light and I use them for my fold-up umbrella, a pashmina, a small make-up purse, a couple of light nylon shopping bags (for food shopping) – and sometimes some light shopping. Works really well. All valuables are in my cross-body.
In France, including Paris, I often see French women with Chanel classic flaps and boy bags – also Hermes. One of my crossbody bags is an LV messenger which works superbly. Many women seem quite casual about them, eg at the local hairdresser where I’ve been going for years they’ll leave their boy bag on their seat when going for a shampoo. I guess the staff keep an eye on it. Haven’t done it myself though. For my next visit to Paris will be looking at the newish Valentino crossbody rock spike bag in red! Love pics of it on IG. On a flight into Nice from London last May I noticed that at least half the women who boarded were carrying Chanel or Hermes bags. Of course it was just at the start of the Cannes Festival. The Chanel boutique in Cannes had the most beautiful collection of classic flaps ever – including a range of fabulous reds and bright and soft pinks. I guess they have them ready for all the star glamour arrivals who might shop there. Best wishes, Pamela
