Boots

I posted these boots on my Facebook page earlier this week when they were marked down for Cyber Monday. I decided to order them myself, and just received them yesterday. I’m absolutely delighted! They look fabulous and are really comfortable. As with the silver Marc Fisher boots, I went down 1/2 size (7 instead of 7.5) and the fit is perfect. The current discount was set to expire yesterday, but another one may kick in so do bookmark if you’re interested. They’re still 30% off!

Baubles

I’ve received several emails over the last few months asking for advice on choosing a French Kande necklace. These pieces are unique and definitely an investment, so I want you to be happy with your choice. My recommendation is to start with a mid-length (28-30″) stone necklace. It will look fantastic worn on its own, and can layer with longer or shorter necklaces as you add to your collection. The necklace above was my first French Kande purchase, and is still one of my favorites.

If you’d prefer lighter colored stones, this “Moonlight Mix” is gorgeous. The Abellie medallion is one of my favorites too.

Holiday baubles: Swarovski crystal necklace with vintage French medallion. Details at une femme d'un certain age.

If a little sparkle makes your heart beat faster, this Swarovski crystal necklace from the “Anvers” Holiday collection might do the trick. The Dunkerque medallion commemorates the “Miracle of Dunkirk” where over 300,000 Allied soldiers were evacuated as the German army closed in.

Among the more budget-friendly French Kande pieces is this Swarovski bracelet (also available in a brass finish).

Or this chain necklace with a Swarovski spike. (Available in silver also.)

I’ve had my eye on this triple Swarovski ring.

Speaking of baubles, I can’t wait for the return of “The Crown” in a few days. I’ll confess, Princess Margaret’s costumes are one of my favorite parts of this series.

One of my British friends once chided me, “you Yanks fought a war to rid yourselves of the Monarchy, yet you remain enamored of it.” Have you watched “The Crown”? What did you think of it?

And finally, I was interviewed by Clever Stilettos for a podcast that you can listen to HERE. Be warned, my voice is a bit loud (interview was conducted via my laptop)

Bon weekend!

  1. Do you know of any alternatives to French Kande? I love their pieces, but the price point is way too high for me.

    1. Susan, I don’t know of anything comparable. One of the reasons I love French Kande jewelry is because it’s so unique. You might try Etsy, and do a search for “stone necklaces” or “medallion necklaces.”

  2. I love French Kande and I love that black and brass combo. I have it on my Christmas list!! I adore the Crown and can’t wait for the second season. I thought it was so well done…

  3. Hi Susan:
You have a wonderful blog that I have been following for the past few months on the advice of friends – great looks, ideas and a positive upbeat vibe! Thank you for doing it! I do have a question about pricey French Kande jewelry, though, because you seem to promote it often and over other brands. Do you have some connection to that LA company? If so, I suggest that you mention it whenever you promote one of their products to your many followers. If not, please accept my apology. Thanks and have a great day!

    1. Hi Desi, thanks so much! I truly love French Kande jewelry, and wear it often. I discovered the line and purchased my first pieces a few years ago, and have since become friends with the designer, Kande Hall, who lives and creates this jewelry here in Los Angeles. As with most of the products I link to, I receive a commission on sales. There is a disclosure of this in my sidebar, and also at the bottom of every post. I am occasionally gifted a piece when new collections are released, and will always indicate that next to any link to a gifted piece.

    2. Perhaps you should read before “suggesting”; Susan always puts the disclosure in the title and body of the article when she features something she was given, or a post is sponsored. There is also a statement at the bottom of each article, as well as on the main page of the blog. It is always very clear.

  4. Love your French Kande jewelry, been watching it since you started your blog. Keep saying one day, one day…
Highlight of my day is logging on to your blog, when I need a morning break at work…. I’m addicted! Keep up the good work, pretty lady.

  5. A few weeks ago, while pondering what to pack for an upcoming trip, I Googled “What to wear to the theater in Los Angeles.” Your amazing blog appeared, full of great and pertinent advice and I have been hooked on reading the blog ever since. Thank you for addressing a real need for women who want to look and feel stylish, regardless of age. Your blog gives me confidence about my fashion choices, which I appreciate.

  6. Many (but not all) of the French Kande pendants can be removed from the chains. I have a large turquoise pendant from a Navaho designer and I’m eyeing one of the French Kande silver-clad chain pendant combos so that I can wear the chain with either the turquoise or the French Kande pendant.

    1. I have intentionally purchased FK necklaces with different colored (brass or silver) medallions that can be used interchangeably, giving me multiple looks with just a few pieces. The mid length black jasper necklace pictured is also a favorite, along with my Moonlight Mix pieces ~ a softer neutral for spring/summer with a bit of sparkle. Never knew about the extenders; thanks!

  7. Also…French Kande sells nice extenders that will add 3″ to your necklace. Type in “extender” in the search bar; that was the only way I was able to find them.

  8. Hi Susan,
Do you know if French Kande ship to New Zealand? If so, can you tell me what weight the Moonlight Mix necklace would be. In the past I have had to reluctantly part with a beautiful piece as it gave me neckache every time I wore it. Many thanks (hope the reno is going well).

    1. Hi Angela, here’s the info. French Kande does ship worldwide. Shipping to New Zealand is $34.95. The shipping weight of the necklace is 3 lb 2 oz.

  9. I bought a mid-length French Kande necklace this year, and it has become my “go-to” piece. Now I’m thinking maybe I need a longer one as well. I’ll check out the Anvers necklace and welcome any other suggestions!
Also, I love The Crown. I don’t pay attention to the fashion, but I love the history and the (undoubtedly exaggerated) sense that I’m getting to know something about the queen and her consort as people. Thanks for letting me know that it’s coming soon.

  10. Oh gosh Susan, those boots are a winner. I noticed them on the Nordy website early this year and nearly bought them. Glad I didn’t now they are on mark down. French Kande stuff is lovely and looks great on you!
