Cold For California

A touch of bright pink in this Burberry check scarf livens up a neutral outfit. Details at une femme d'un certain age.

No, we can’t really complain compared to other parts of the country, but it’s been really chilly and windy here the past week. I said to a friend recently that a breezy 50F in LA feels colder than 30F in Colorado.

Boots-and-Scarf Weather

These photos were actually taken a few weeks ago, but I’ve been wearing that cashmere scarf on repeat the past few days. This was the one that Karen and I were both so taken with at the Burberry boutique back in January. I have to say, I went “off” Burberry a few years ago, but lately some of the pieces (especially scarves) have charmed me again. I love the lighter, brighter colors of this one.

Oldies but goodies: a Brahmin satchel and Etienne Aigner riding boots. Details at une femme d'un certain age.

This Brahmin bag is one that I picked up during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale a few years ago. I have a renewed appreciation for these bags and have been working them into rotation more often. The boots are from Etienne Aigner and probably 10 years old now. I keep looking for replacements/upgrades, but haven’t yet found any that I like as well.

Admiring a visiting sailboat. No, they didn’t invite us aboard. That’s my favorite pearl bracelet from French Kande.

Mad for plaid (scarves)

…that will transition to Spring.

  1. That outfit looks like mine here in Midwestern February. 🙂 Plaids always make me happy.

BTW, over the weekend I glanced at the 2018 fall Versace show, and it’s full of schoolgirl “Clueless” 90s tartans. I doubt I’ll be wearing mid-thigh kilts this fall, but I can imagine some bright plaids could creep onto other parts of my body.

  2. I absolutely love your blog, and look forward to it every day! As a 62 year old, I appreciate the clothes, style and young spirit that comes through! Please keep blogging, and Thank you!

  3. I love your scarf! Perfect color for you. I understand what you’re saying regarding the Burberry thing. I bought a couple of cashmere fringed scarves years ago and then tucked them away. I did invest in a dark teal silk wool scarf and took it out to wear with tan EF Nile dress. A bit off topic, but can you suggest an EF blazer in a petite size? I recently purchased the tencel ponte stand collar blazer and the matching cropped pants. The jacket just didn’t sit right and the pants in the ponte kind of inched toward “old ladysville.” I don’t think ponte is the fabric for me. Reminds me of something the older ladies in my neighborhood would wear in the 70’s when polyester was all the rage. Thinking about ordering the washable stretch crepe or corded tencel jacket. Unfortunately the closest EF store is an hour away so I don;t allways have the option of trying things on. I do like the washable stretch crepe pants and am thinking the jacket may make a nice suit look. Thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

    1. I’m a bit OCD so have to correct myself. “don’t always” teach me to proof read before submitting comment next time!

    2. Hi Lisa, thanks!

If you like a longer blazer and don’t mind an open front, this one in stretch crepe is nice. http://bit.ly/2EPObts

I haven’t tried the corded tencel, but will check out my local store this week to see if they have it.

      1. I think I’d like the longer length. May make the trek from RI to MA for a try on. They now offer the option to order and ship to the store. Saves a trip to UPS for returns if it doesn’t fit. I did order the cropped jumpsuit in viscose jersey, my favorite EF fabric, and will let you know how that fits. Looks pretty versatile and comfortable.

  4. Cold is all relative to what you’re used to. About two weeks ago, I was walking the boardwalk when I crossed paths with another couple. In scurrying pass I commented on it being too cold to dawdle. They had just flown in from Winnipeg where it was -30 C and thought it not very cold at all.
    Loving your whole outfit today.

  5. I’m loving this cooler California weather, so beautiful and clear out! Wondering about your hoop earrings. Close to ordering them but unsure of size. Are you wearing the med, 1.5″, or the 2″? Thank you, you look lovely

  6. Classic! Love it. I have a similar pair of black boots I bought in Germany many years ago, woolly-lined they are perfect even for stomping through snow. Thank you, Susan.

  7. Yes, it has been colder than usual here in Southern California, however, I must say I am enjoying it. For some strange reason I seem to have more heavier clothing than lightweight clothing so am finding the opportunity to wear it very much to my liking. Regardless of that pleasure, we still need rain.

  8. Just wanted to comment for the first time on your blog. It’s part of my regular feed through Feedly and I always look forward to your posts. Your clean style and thoughts on travel always inspire. Thank you! Know that I am reading faithfully whenever you post even I don’t comment. (heading to California for a vacay in two weeks – hope it warms up!)

  9. I am so happy to have found your blog. I am a 48 year old stay at home mom who gets tired of wearing jeans and sweaters, Ugg boots and yoga pants. I live in So Cal too and need some inspiration! I dread summer attire as I don’t have the petite body I used to. I am heavy around the middle and small up top. I look forward to following you~
