Spring Travel Plans?

I’m working on some updated Spring travel wardrobe posts, which will be published later this month. In the meantime, you can check out all of my personal travel wardrobes and travel wardrobe planning tips HERE.

Our Ski Trip So Far…

Blogger Susan B. with ski instructor. Details at une femme d'un certain age.

We’re skiing in Colorado this week, the first time in a couple of years. Snowfall has been very sparse so far this season, something like 30% of normal. For my first day skiing, I decided to take a lesson with our friend and favorite instructor, Yarek. It was snowing a bit, and the wind was blowing pretty hard up on the mountain, which made for difficult skiing, compounded by the lack of snow in spots. I was glad to be out with an instructor who could talk me through the challenging terrain and conditions. We had a bit of snowfall in the late afternoon and evening, and I’m hoping the rest of the week will have better weather and easier skiing conditions.

Visibility was mostly so poor I wasn’t able to get many photos, but did manage to snap this one on my last run. I just love these spectacular mountain vistas. I’m hoping to get some better photos during the week and will share.

SPF 50 sport sunscreen. Details at une femme d'un certain age.At this altitude, serious sunscreen is a must, even on cloudy days. I’ve been trying out this one, and will report back at the end of the week. My SIL is also testing it. We both like that it’s not heavy or greasy.

Supergoop SPF 30 lip balm.To protect my lips, I’ve been carrying this SPF 30 lip balm and re-applying frequently.

More soon!

  1. We’re trying to see if we can fit in a day snowshoeing on one of the local mountains, although winter sports haven’t been a consideration the last few years, so I’m not sure I have enough gear. . . The advantage here is that we can be renting the snowshoes within an hour of leaving home, and snowshoeing works up enough body heat that I can probably get away with winter running gear (and we’ll be within an hour or two to the car, on groomed trails, so no danger of being cold for too long).
Looking forward to seeing your travel wardrobe (and learning more about your travel plans for the year).

  2. I have been following you, Susan, for a couple of years but have never written in before. I love the clothing you show and the way you let us enter into your life. The warmth and cheerfulness of all of the comments are a testament to the kind of community you have fostered among your readers.

I wonder if anyone has used the site Artful Home. It’s an art guild, actually, where artists who make wearable art, jewelry and home goods display their work, which is for sale. The site is curated by some fine artists, so the taste level is high (at least in my view). A bit on the pricey side but worth it, I think. I am particularly taken by the vests and jackets made by Mieko Mintz, which seem to be very much in Susan’s style. See what you think.

  3. No travel this year as we are selling our home of 40 years to down size to a home all on one floor with a smaller garden! But this time next year, we will be definitely looking forward to travel. We have even thrown out a few ideas such as France or Eastern Europe.

  4. Thank you for your site.. I am in Australia for half of the year but in Europe for the Summer. I note your ideas and use them to plan my trips. Very useful!!!!
Sorry to see a rather dismal ski area, that would make it hard to enjoy yourself in the snow.
I look forward to your Spring travel plans. We will be in England, Ireland where we will tour, and then 2 months in France in our house. So much fun!!!

  5. I will be travelling to Budapest and Prague in Mid May. Any advice on weather related clothing for that time of year would be appreciated from you or your readers.

  6. You look adorable in ski gear with such a great smile! I love Coola and devoted a whole post on its virtues on my blog. It has such a great scent and (on me) practically weightless. The tinted version isn’t as fab as it settles into lines but still a far cry better than some. As always, I love the blog and check in daily!

  7. Yarek looks like a fun guy to ski with. I bet he has lots of interesting stories to tell on the chair lift ride up the slopes. Looking forward to your end of week review of that sunscreen.

  8. Susan, I so enjoy your posts! Always timely and very interesting. I’ve a question that relates to travel; we will be traveling on a cruise ship in the Mediterranean in August and I’m trying to decide if it’s more efficient to take a skirt that will pair with a variety of tops or a dress. What are your thoughts?
