Friday Miscellany: Fragrance and More

Lancome la vie est belle fragrance. Details at une femme d'un certain age.I’m just back from a 4-day road trip with my sister to the Eastern Sierras, and am still catching up. So a short and sweet post today…

While some women have a signature fragrance, I like to swap mine out with a change of the seasons (and mood). My summer favorites feel a bit too fruity and light now, but the ones that I like to wear when the weather is cooler still feel too heavy. I keep coming back to La Vie est Belle for a good all-around scent. I’ve worn this off and on for the last couple of years, and recently started wearing again. It’s not too heavy for daytime, but works for evening too.

Charlotte Tilbury Superstar lipstick in Happy Lips. Details at une femme d'un certain age.

Just tried this newish lipstick formula from Charlotte Tilbury and I really like it for those days when I want something with a little more pop. It’s more sheer than her other formulas, but still has a good amount of pigmentation that lasts a while. It’s a little bit glossy, and very moisturizing.

DeMellier London midi-venice bag in Forest grain leather. Details at une femme d'un certain age.

If you’ve had your eye on any of those DeMellier London bags (like the Midi Venice above), here’s something to sweeten the deal: $55 off all orders over $375 with code BDAY55. This offer is valid until October 31.

Bon weekend!

  1. Apropos of fragrance, I tried a new one at Nordstrom’s yesterday and fell in love. It’s Twilly D’Hermes. Luca Turin, in his newer Perfume book has a lot (good, 5 stars!) to say about it. Here’s a snippet:

“Sharp, medicinal ginger along with a hum of other aromatic spices, woods, and sweet notes of hay turn tuberose into a herbal note, something we didn’t know it wanted to be all along. The result is an androgynous fougere of fantastic beauty….”

    I may cave….

    1. Oh, Twilly, I got a sample of that and just loved it. It’s marketed to younger girls, but it is so much more complex than the typical Burnt Sugar – vanilla- candy Youth fragrances out there. I’m no girl anymore, and I have my sights set on it.

      1. Daniella, you’ve worn out your welcome here. It’s one thing to disagree, it’s another to be disparaging. You seem to take the latter road more often than not. I’m not sure why you even read this blog, but suggest you find one more to your liking.

  2. I’m headed to Nice next week and will be doing a perfume workshop. SO excited!! The Midi Venice is gorgeous, especially in that green. Putting it on my Christmas list. Hope you had a wonderful time with your sister.

  3. Just checked out the DeMellier website. Thank you! Gorgeous, elegant bags. No surprise when reading the creator’s bio, that she once worked with LVMH and Burberry. She definitely understands the designer
    bag market.

  4. These all look like things I’d love!
I wanted to mention that the Epictetus quote in your Mots de Sagesse is my new motto…:)

  5. A DeMellier bag is now on my wishlist! The colors are gorgeous. I think the Berlin or Oslo will be a treat to myself. That birthday code helps justify it. Thank you for introducing the brand.

  6. Beautiful bags. Bookmarking them for a future splurge!

Loved your photos from the Eastern Sierras. Such a gorgeous landscape.
