Laura Mercier Mineral Pressed Powder.

Yes, I know a few months ago I was crazy about Giorgio. But once warmer weather hits, liquid foundations seem to slide right off my skin in a matter of minutes, even with primer. Mineral powder foundations generally give the kind of light coverage I’m looking for, just enough to tone down redness and shine and give a smoother look overall. But I do need to touch up the oilier bits during the day, and loose mineral powders were just too messy to carry around, while regular pressed powders were just too matte and cakey looking. This Laura Mercier Mineral Powder is highly pigmented, so a little goes a long way if you’re looking for sheer coverage. Apply with a Kabuki brush instead of the foam puff included. I use with Laura’s primer specifically formulated for mineral foundations.

  1. metscan – probably no more challenging that dealing with -20C temperatures! 🙂 We really don’t get the extremely cold, dry winters that some parts of the continent do, but we get a long stretch of warm-to-hot weather from July until November, and I’ve always found that it’s harder to keep makeup looking good in warmer weather (if one even wears it).

I’m actually very minimal with my makeup, which is why I require a lot from a little. I just want to hide the blotchy and shiny bits, and look alive and healthy. Most days it’s just the mineral powder, some bronzer/blush, some eyebrow powder (to fill in skimpy brows) and lipstick or gloss. That’s it.

  2. It must be challenging with makeup over there. I have no idea. When it is like `winter´, how cold does it get? Here in Scandinavia, I can manage with the same makeup gear all the time. I only use very little foundation. Occasionally I tap a little powder on. Our climate varies from max. +25C (summer) to -20C (winter).

  3. LBR – no caking that I’ve noticed, but I do use the mineral primer, so that may account for it. This really doesn’t create the powdery effect that the Jane Iredale did.

  4. High pigmentation in any makeup product (mineral or not) is something I prize- as you say, you use so much less which is in turn much more natural looking. That’s how MAC made its mark. I find Guerlain good too.

  5. Une femme, do you still use the Chanel Teint Innocence compact makeup (the one you packed in your see through container for the aeroplane on your last Paris trip) – I was considering getting some and I wondered what you thought of it….
