The One That Got Away…

I’ve been stalking this McQ jacket over at Net-a-Porter for the last few weeks.

McQ by Alexander McQueen at ShopStyle

“What’s the big deal?” you ask. “It’s a grey jacket with somewhat interesting sleeves.”

Look at the back, mes petites.

But alas, it is not to be. The largest size (which might have fit me in a few weeks) has sold out.

  1. That really is a nice jacket. I try to tell myself when that happens that it is for the best and I didn’t need it anyway. Sometimes it works ;-).

  2. Have you put the jacket into a search engine? Or do you know a boutique that carries McQ? One can either forget abut it or go on a mission. Great jacket!

  3. That is a fabulous jacket. I am glad I hadn’t found it although I would have just held it in my wish list too; it is too short for me. Things sometimes go quite quickly on NAP, especially in the larger sizes (you would think that would tell everyone something).

This is basically my budget saving technique. I save something on NAP or another website and drool over it for days or weeks and then by the time I have decided I must have it, someone else has beaten me to it. This technique does not lead to sartorial pleasure but is very good for the budget.

  4. I have stopped even looking at that site, it gets too depressing.

On the plus side, although pretty to look at , the jacket seems like it would be less than flattering on a normal human with you know, breasts and stuff.

  5. metscan – if I had been sure of the sizing, I might have broken one of my cardinal rules of not buying something too small for me now. But without knowledge of how this brand runs, I’m leery.

Julianne – in my fantasy, I find it at Saks in two months on sale for 70% off…and it fits perfectly!!

  6. Duchesse – I did put it into a seach engine but only came up with the Net-a-porter link for online purchase. I am going to try to find someone locally who carries the brand so I can at least try it on.

Frugal Scholar – I am entirely open to finding something better, and to the universe I say, “bring it on!”

  7. mater – I am indeed looking forward to future shopping expeditions!

Mardel – you’d think after a while NAP would figure out that they could sell a lot more in the larger sizes and order more. But yes, it does help the budget when my size is continually sold out.

  8. Yep, that could have been yours. Some articles are sold out within the first hours on NAP, so you must make up you mind immediately.

  9. It’s truly elegant. But I find I am always disappointed in things I buy from catalogs/websites. Also, the back of that jacket might not look so good after you’ve been sitting at your desk for a while. I find, too, that whenever I hesitate it’s for a reason and I usually see something even better shortly thereafter.

    Hope you’re feeling better.

  10. Oh, that’s great. Sorry you lost out on that particular one, but I’m betting things with similar styling will continue to pop up over the next couple of seasons, so maybe you’ll find one you like even better.
