Prep, Prime, Protect

When the folks at O, The Oprah Magazine contacted me and asked if I’d like to test and review a beauty product, I was game but curious about what I’d be sent. I received a full-size sample of the product above a few weeks ago, and was immediately intrigued. As a multi-tasker myself, I’m always on the lookout for products that perform multiple functions to save steps in my skincare/beauty routines.

L’Oréal Revitalift Miracle Blur claims to smooth wrinkles, lines and pores, and provide SPF protection. I’d classify its functions as filler, primer and sunscreen. I’ve been using this product regularly since receiving it, and have the following impressions.

On its own: the silicone-based product is thick when it comes out of the tube, but glides on smoothly. I suspect that contact with warm skin softens it a bit. A small amount is all you need. It definitely smooths over pores and fine lines, and on it’s own has a mattifying effect, which might be good for those with oily skin or areas. I don’t find that it particularly evens out skin tone or blotchiness. It contains no tint.

Under foundation/makeup: Miracle Blur is brilliant here! I’ve mostly been unimpressed with expensive primers, but really do like how beautifully a tinted moisturizer or foundation goes on over this stuff. No settling in pores or lines, no streaks when applied with a brush. And makeup does tend to stay put and I notice less shine coming through on my nose after a few hours.

As a sunscreen: the SPF seems to be mostly chemical-based (avobenzone and other ingredients) rather than a barrier sunscreen such as titanium dioxide, so worn alone as a sunscreen it would need to be reapplied every couple of hours during extended sun exposure (as the package instructions indicate). But if you’re planning an indoor day, and especially if you layer multiple products containing some SPF, this could probably take the place of your 30 SPF step.

Overall: I think this does a better job as a filler/primer than the more expensive products I’ve tried, and with the added bonus of 30 SPF.

Would you like to try L’Oréal Revitalift Miracle Blur? I have NINE (count ’em, NINE) full-sized product samples to give away, kindly provided by O, The Oprah Magazine. Because I like to keep things simple, here are the rules:

Being A woman of a Certain Age….. L’Oréal Revitalift Miracle Blur sounds like it might just be something I could use!
Thanks for trying the product, and for offering it to your readers!

  2. February 13, 2013 / 1:26 pm

Count me in. Need to blur some things. Sounds like good stuff.

  3. February 13, 2013 / 2:43 pm

I’ve only recently begun trying makeup primers. I was given a sample of a Guerlain product and THINK I can see a difference when using it. I would love to try this one as well. Sunscreen is a product we ALL need to use daily.

I’d love to try this! I’m a fan of L’Oreal products, and I use a couple of their other primers, but this sounds particularly good for me because of my slightly oily skin and because of the sunscreen.

  14. February 13, 2013 / 9:07 pm

I just saw this stuff in the wild at CVS yesterday — $25 a pop! Wowzers.

Just converted from Boots No. 7 to L’Oreal skin care products and saw my first TV commercial for Blur last night. After reading your comment about how nice this is under tinted moisturizer I am always happy to replace a more expensive product with a lower cost one that is just as good!

I’d like to blur quite a lot but I bet it won’t work on bad memories 😉 I like L’Oreal as a brand and if you say this works, I’d love to give it a try. I’m especially impressed that it has SPF30 and can be used w/o having to use foundation. Great for everyday with a bit of mascara, brow grooming and some good lipstick!

I would like to try it. I haven’t seen it in stores and yesterday, ironically, I bought another L’Oreal product…night cream and I forget the name. So far, am not thrilled. I have oily skin which, at 61, serves me well. Never thought I’d say that but oily skin doesn’t line as quickly and believe me, I spent the better part of my youth at the beach.

    So YES. Pick me! 🙂

This product intrigues me, too! I’ve noticed sample displays at various stores I have visited recently but they’re always empty. After reading excellent reviews, including yours, by women with maturing skin I’m convinced I’d love to try it! Thank you for your assessment and for your lovely blog. Its a favorite! 🙂

Blurring sounds good to me. I always like the way my face looks in the mirror after makeup but before I put on my glasses, softly blurred. With any luck that will be the effect this will have, would love to try it.

I would love to try this product. I’ve been blessed (yes, blessed) with oily skin so even at age 55 the only wrinkles I’m seeing are around my eyes. Foundation or coverup just seems to fall right in and only emphasizes them. I think this product may be very helpful without drawing attention to my less appealing bits.

I’m not a fan of heavy foundation, but a primer would be aces under my pressed powder!

  37. February 14, 2013 / 3:46 am

Ooh me me me! I was intrigued when you said it mattifies on its own, and then really interested when you said it prevents breakthrough shine!

I am impressed just by your review. I would love to try this product. I have terribly oily skin and large pores, and finding any product that would help reduce shine or result in less settling of my light foundation in my pores would be lovely. I wonder what L’Oreal says about this product for people with adult acne or acne rosacea? We’re a tough skin crowd!

This sounds ideal. I haven’t found a primer/filler that I really like, and I’ve tried lots, with various degrees of success. I wonder if putting a sunblock UNDER this would work? Please enter me!

At 63, I have found primers invaluable, but have only used Laura Mercier ( not thick enough), a product called Spackle by Laura Geller and Smashbox, which I currently use and love. I recently bought a drug store serum and was pleasantly surprised by the quality which rivaled my previous Trish McEvoy serum and cost umpteen dollars less. Would love to be surprised by a new, less expensive primer that would work for me.
