Not in time for Christmas, but…
This navy tuxedo jacket from J. Crew is on sale for $99! (I’m looking at you, Belle and La Belette Rouge!) Perfect to throw over that party dress for a chilly New Year’s Eve!
Confession: I bought the same one in black a few weeks ago during another J. Crew sale, and while it’s not a YSL Le Smoking, the fit is flattering and it’s a well made piece.

Would be a terrific staple and I appreciate your comment on quality. What are you wearing yours with?
Just my style….but without the cutoff jean shorts.
And I’d add a brooch to the lapel!
Duchesse – so far, I’ve worn with my black jeans, and plan to wear with my black BR trousers and an ivory ruffled silk blouse for the next Long Beach Symphony concert. I imagine I’ll wear this “dressed down” more frequently than dressed up, but I really love how this jacket fits and works with my curves.
Sal – see above.
LBR – do I know you or what? 😉
Belle – the way J.Crew has styled this particular piece is awful…I’d imagine you doing something far more classy, and yes to the brooch!
Ooh that is lovely, may have to get the brother in Manhattan to pick one up for me and send it across. Nice over an evening dress – and I think it’d look fab with jeans or black slim pants.
Ooh, Belette is going to get all wild and do navy?!
Talk about impulse buying! Actually I’ve been keeping an eye open for a similar jacket, so I ordered it immediately. Thanks.
Indeed, what are your plans for this piece? Tuxedo jackets stymie me.
It is just my cup of Jcrew flavored tea. Love it!
Ooooh, looks fabulous – wish J Crew shipped to Oz!!
Happy Holidays to you Deja – have sooo loved 2009 following your great blog – heres to 2010!!

Great choice, Pseu!
Just be forewarned…this blazer is now part of J. Crew’s notorious “Final Sale” promotion. Teeny tiny print that says “All sales final…No exchanges, no returns”. So if you can:
1. Try on the item in store first. Typically, in-store promos are not matched with on-line promos…so you may have to call from a red phone in the store to get the $99 price! Petites and Talls are generally not in store, unfortunately. Or…
2. Ask an SA over the phone to give you details on measurements. I know many gals who actually had an SA, while over the phone with them, put in a notation – in the order – about how since the fit may be questionable, the item may be exchanged or returned. But you definitely have to have it noted by an SA, so they don’t give you grief if you attempt a return (in store or otherwise).
Sorry I had to mention it..I think I’ve seen people burned on this too many times 🙁
I was looking forward to going to J.Crew in Pasadena during this most recent trip west…but was sadly disappointed in the overall quality of the clothing. Now I will really hang on to my aging j.crew pieces since their quality will wear better..sigh….
ohh la la! I loe the black satin collar! Why do I love black and navy so? Maybe because it was verboten for so long….
