Une femme recommends…

Apologies to mes amis on the East Coast who are sweltering right now and probably want to throw a shoe at this image on the monitor.  But even if the heat is wilting you outside, you might work in an office with an overzealous air conditioning system, or you might live in LA where the June Gloom isn’t letting go.
Unlike the dishrag limp knits that are everywhere right now, this cardi has some structure and heft, while still being lightweight.  But what really sets this one apart are the gold knot buttons, which are a very nice touch for a sweater at this price point. Lots of pretty colors too.  I love the Lemoncello.  Talbot’s “Charming Cardigan,” $59.50

  1. My brother and his wife have been escaping Manhattan and going to the shore. I’m hoping that the heatwave will put people off travelling to NYC and then we can get some cheap flights for a little trip across the Atlantic!

  2. AAh! Just pretty! And the heat won’t last forever..the ony trouble is, I’d do my usual one in more colors than I can afford trip…

  3. Yes, it is dangerously hot! But my neighborhood movie theater keeps the chillers roaring and no one goes without a sweater. It’s delightful. These Talbots cardigans would be perfect!

  4. That cardigan looks beautiful but alas there isn’t a single colour there I’d wear. See pseu’s many Parisian reports for colours I do wear. Please, something a bit smoky, deeply rich or muted! Cotton cardigans are a lifesaver for overenthusiastic air chillers!

It is extremely hot up here in Montréal too by the way; 35° and very, very humid. I crave heat but can’t sleep (most people here don’t have air conditioning).

  5. I seem to have brought the heat back from europe with me — it’s low 30s here today, and I’m glad the breeze off the water is somewhat cooling. I’ll try to use my good luck with the sunshine to send a bit your way.

  6. Oooh, pretty. The heat here in madness, but because of it I’ve been carrying a cardigan or long scarf everywhere since the air condition buildings are enough to give me hypothermia! People have given me odd looks when I say it’s cold, but when it’s 93-103 outside and 70 inside that’s a drastic change. And after living in England with no air, and we keep our house at about 75, my body isn’t used to artificial means of cooling off so much.

  7. That’s Not My Age – holding a good thought for some cheap flights for you.

Splurgie – yes! Theaters and malls, why do they keep them so cold??

Katriona – yes, multiples are tempting…

Sal – and I think they’ve named them accordingly!

  8. Hostess – the sweaters are actually cotton. But they’d probably be too warm for your outdoor temps now.

Dana – who you callin’ grandma?
    😉 Thanks!

Kalee – yes, it’s the differential between the outdoor and indoor temps that makes me crazy. I really think it makes people more inclined to get sick.

  9. Miss Janey – some days our office gets like that too!

lagatta – they also have black and white. I’m hoping they’ll have some other neutrals come fall.

materfamilias – I’m actually enjoying the cooler weather while it lasts, but a bit more sunshine wouldn’t be too bad either.

  10. July in DC…talk about beastly hot…but the sherbetty colors of the sweater are awfully cooling – at least in theory! Love that sweater and that look.

  11. It has been brutal in Boston the last few days, that’s for sure! Not being a summer lover I always get excited to start seeing fashions that are for cooler weather. Talbots is one of my favorites. This sweater may be worth checking out. Sounds like it’s right up my alley.

  12. Thanks, pseu! I do find I often have to get the autumnal colour palette in US lines, though I’m not really an “autumn”. The last thing I need on earth is another black cardigan, and I don’t wear white (black cat, for one thing).

  13. They were on sale in the store. 40% off. Now I am not sure it was the summer colours. But I know they had lots of them on sale.

  14. The sweater on sale is the summer “Charming Cardigan” with three quarter length sleeves. I just ordered one from the catalog with a monogram, an extra $10. Monograms can be placed on the cuff, breast plate or bottom ribbing. Such fun!! I also bought one last week for a friend who loves it for work and added the matching shell.
