Une femme recommends…

The fabric is a bit lighter than the standard Chico’s platinum, though they still have the same great fit.  I really like this brown, which is actually less brown and more smoke grey than they appear in the picture.  If you’re not able to try these on, my recommendation is to order one size (or half a Chico’s size) down from what you normally wear.  They will be snug at first and stretch to fit. Available in three lengths (Short, Regular and Tall) and four other colors, including a nice light grey (Dove Grey).

  1. Frugal – they didn’t have the ponte pants in black in my size, so I’ve ordered a pair to try. The fabric seems quite nice though, and the weight is about the same. EF pants don’t fit me well at all, except for the leggings. Chico’s and NYDJ are my “go-to” lines for pants these days.

  2. I love your reviews also. I am not a big Chicos shopper, but may become one based on jeans I recently purchased. I have a few pounds to lose and initially bought a size that is probably a bit large. I then bought a pair a half size smaller and I’m pleased.

My only complaint has been that some decorative stitching comes loose and requires redoing by my tailor–an expense which makes the reasonable price a bit more.

I think I will be ordering your suggestion. I like them!

  3. I DID order the brown jeans and also the gray. With the order of two pairs of denim, the second was 1/2 price. Very good deal.

I can vouch for the excellent fit of these jeans.

Now, if only Chicos would ditch the faux glitzy of some of their items and concentrate on quality and fit and elegance!

If you place an order by telephone, be sure to ask if there are any other special offer codes you qualify for. If you are a “passport” member, you will qualify.

  4. Kathy – I don’t believe they adjust the rise, only the inseam length. That said, I’m short-waisted, and find that the rise on these is perfect: the back hits just below my natural waist (and no gapping!) and the front just below the navel. I tried the boot cut in Short, but they were too short, as I like to wear my bootcuts with a bit of heel. I may try the regular length this weekend if I have a chance.

Wendyb – it really is a great shade. At first I thought it was a dark grey, but then in brighter light saw the brownish tone.

Susan – I’m so glad the reviews are helpful! I’ve never had a problem with stitching on Chico’s jeans, but I usually stick to the unembellished styles. Hope you like them!

  5. Really, down a half a size? Does that work from their size charts? The nearest store me to doesn’t have any of the premium denim and the nearest store that does is over an hour away so I have to order, but I am very intrigued.

  6. I ordered these same brown ones last month and love them! I wear a 12 tall in RTW and bought the Tall 1.5 size which is nicely snug with plenty of stretch.

  7. Mardel – usually in Chico’s pants I’m a size 1. In the Platinum Denim (regular and Premium) I’m a size 0.5. Hope that helps!

Jane M – great to hear, thanks!

  8. Thank you for getting back about the sizing. And thank you Jane as well. I’m usually a 12 in RTW and a 2 in other Chicos pants. So I’ll order the 1.5.

  9. I don’t buy the embellished jeans either–I’m talking about top stitching on pockets—nothing fancy. On two pairs I’ve had to take them to the tailor for restitching. Small price to pay for a great fit.

  10. I’ve never tried Chico’s for jeans — I guess I’d be a 3.5, if such a thing exists — but I live in their sweaters and tees. The cut is really flattering.

I haven’t tried many of their other tops, though, since I find them a tad OTT.

  11. And I agree that many of their tops are over the top. I do like their white blouses and such. It’s that studded glittery stuff that is not great.

Try their jeans. I think you will be surprised. I was.

  12. Did you check out the ponte while you were there? I’m wondering how it compares to the much more expensive Eileen Fisher. I don’t get to the big city very much, I’m afraid.

  13. I love your reviews….they are so helpful, especially since I live in small town and internet shopping is required….

What is the rise like? Is is proportional to the length? ie: short length = proportional rise?

Did you try the boot cut?
