Sunday Mixed Nuts

Grand-mère Lucille in India, 196?

You ever have one of those months where it feels like your body is falling apart?  Last week I tripped and landed on my knee, rendering it intermittently sore and stiff.  Yesterday I bit down on something hard in a piece of bread and cracked another tooth. Le monsieur has firmly suggested that I need to get my hearing checked. (Bad teeth run on my mother’s side of the family; mid-life hearing loss in my father’s.)

But it’s all good.  Today I’m going to try to get out into the garden to give my lavenders a much-needed dead-heading. Weather here has been beautiful, sunny and mid-to-high 70’s.

Found another white shirt that works well (and is no-iron!).

From Brooks Brothers of all places!  And it’s on sale through July 3.  Recommended by some of the woman over at the YouLookFab Forum.

How’s your weekend shaping up?

  1. I just turned 60 in late April–and along with that recently invested in three new pairs of shoes from Naot, Mephisto, and Finn Comfort. All have extra cushioning and are ultra comfortable. They have helped with my midlife joint and hip pain. So—I understand what you are saying.

We’re having a quiet weekend of accomplishments—selling a vehicle and buying another was a big part of our activity. I’m spending all of today working (feverishly) on a needlepoint stocking for our youngest grandson. I am determined that he will have it for Christmas (he will be two years old by then).

  2. My weekend’s shaping up with stomach flu. So I will drink some tea and toast Grandmere’s spirit and white shirts. Have a nice Sunday.

  3. Fabulous pic of grand-mere! And another lovely white shirt. Yep, I feel like my body’s falling apart too. Have some horrible lurgy & can’t stop coughing, my back’s playing up & I twisted my ankle on a pair of flatforms. I won’t go on!

  4. I love the picture of your grandmother – what an adventure she’s having. Sorry about the tooth! I had a filling pop out last weekend and just got it fixed — relief is grand.

That is a great cotton shirt – I have owned a couple and they are truly no-iron. Good sales price too – thanks for the link : >

  5. I went through a series of cracked teeth in my ’50s and then again in my ’60’s. Discovered too late that wearing my night guard for protection against teeth grinding greatly reduced the cracked teeth and root canals..

  6. This is exactly how I felt coming out of the school year in May…everything was falling a part! That is why I am working so hard to get back my health that I constantly neglect! Sorry, you have a tooth problem…it’s painful and expensive, but while you are gardening, just appreciate the beauty of the flowers and the weather and maybe you can forget the tooth for awhile. Have fun in the garden!!

  7. Geez, if any of the first five ingredients in your bread is leaves or twigs, then your bread just may have too much fiber. A cracked tooth? Ouch! Have fun gardening.

  8. Oh no! So sorry to hear about the knee and the tooth and the hearing giving trouble all at once.

I love that photo of your Grand-mère. She looks like she’s having a blast.

  9. It’s not easy being “of a certain age”, sometimes! Me, I am in quite good shape for the most part (excepting a pinched nerve &/or muscle strain in my neck the last two weeks!) My issue is somewhat high blood pressure, which is unfortunately more serious than the outwardly obvious ailments. I have been trying hard to get the numbers down without drugs, but it’s been difficult.

  10. Love the picture of your granmother. Hope you are fully recovered and can enjoy your garden

  11. So sorry to hear of your misfortunate ailments…joints and teeth are such sensitive things to injure. That photo of your grandmother is enough to cheer up anyone, though! Just a point to consider about those non-iron shirts. They’re treated with formaldehyde. I’d rather deal with the hassle of ironing than exposé myself to that.

  12. Ouch to the knee and the tooth. Growing pains, but deadheading lavender should be a calming activity. Great white shirt!

  13. I do think that sometimes we take our bodies for granted and then get surprised, sometimes shocked or angry when thing don’t go quite as we would hope. Maybe we don’t pay attention to them as much as we could.
