Breakfast In Jardin du Luxembourg

breakfast in Jardin du Luxembourg Paris

breakfast in Paris, Jardin du LuxembourgSo in the fantasy version of my life, here’s my “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” moment. 😉 Actually the reference didn’t occur to me until afterward when I was looking through these wonderful photos by Carla Coulson. But here I am: all glammed up, in one of my favorite places on earth, in a spot that “calms me down right away,” enjoying a café crème and a croissant. (And yes, I Really Did Eat That. By the time we got to this point of the morning, I was starving.)

These are some of my very favorite photos from our shoot, as it’s such a lovely and inviting spot. And I’m so glad that I trusted my instincts and brought clothing to be photographed in that was comfortable and felt like “me.”

Where would you have your “Breakfast At Tiffany’s” moment?

  1. My reaction: Only ONE croissant? I would have had two.
My mind reels at the possibilities of Breakfast at Tiffany’s spots. But for before the break of dawn, I have just the spot for a Holly Golightly glass of champagne. I actually did this some years ago–a ride on the Grande Roue that’s sometimes at Place de la Concorde, followed by champagne on the terrace of Café Marly, overlooking the glowing Pyramid of the Louvre. Very Holly-style, most of the cool people there after midnight were wearing sunglasses.

    1. I probably could’ve had a second, but we were on a tight schedule. 😉 Champagne on the Grande Roue sounds about perfect!

  2. One of my favorite places too. I walk so much in Paris (and Aix) that I would definitely eat the croissant, and part of a baguette as well, with plenty of confitures…Please tell me what lipstick you are wearing, it’s perfect for your coloring.

    1. Hi Linda, thank you! What the makeup artist used on me was actually a lip pencil that is sold at Monoprix! Sadly it doesn’t seem to be available in the States, but if you’re in France it’s from Deborah Milano 24 Ore and color is #10. But if you can’t wait to get to France, I’ve found an almost perfect dupe here: Makeover Workshop Waterproof Gel Liner in “Maraschino” with just a little bit of “Berry Squeeze” lipstick over top for moisture and shine. The liner is brilliant and does stay put for HOURS, no bleeding!

  3. The photos are fantastic! My “Breakfast At Tiffany’s” moment is now a memory. It happened every morning in the apartment on Quai des Grands Augustins after Bonaparte returned from Rue de Buci with fresh Croissant. We would join his aunt , Daniele, in her Chambre, and have breakfast together while discussing our daily plans , that evening’s dinner and our lives. Sadly Daniele is no longer here, but I have great memories ❤️

  4. That first photo of you Sue is stunning. I love the red lipstick. I remember seeing the Jardin du Luxembourg for the first time last year after having read about it for so many years. Lovely.

My Breakfast at Tiffany’s moment isn’t an urban one. On Hubby’s and my first big trip ever we visited the Cook Islands, New Zealand, and Australia…we were away for three months. And I’m thinking of the morning we ate breakfast was on the deck in the slightly wild garden of a small cottage we had rented in Tasmania. The cottage was tiny but done up in distressed white paint, billowing white sheer curtains and antiques. I hated to leave. As you say… even thinking about it “calms me right down.”

    1. Susan, thanks very much. Jardin du Luxembourg is one of my very favorite places on earth! Your rented cottage sounds like a little slice of heaven too…

  5. Wow these are just terrific photos Susan! You look absolutely beautiful–and happy! BTW I have croissants every morning for breakfast when I’m in Paris. Always. Why not?? <3

    1. Sybes1, thank you very much. And yes, the croissants are so good there, it seems almost a crime not to enjoy them!

  6. I enjoyed Café Hugo at the Place des Vosges when I stayed in the Marais. Your photos are beautiful. It’s great to have a Breakfast at Tiffany’s moment.

  7. These photos are fabulous! Looks like a magnificent spot. I would choose an exquisite view of Bergen, Norway and the fjords. After a ride up the funicular on Mount Floien. we stopped for the best Norwegian coffee at Floien Folkerestaurant, 320 meters above sea level. The views are even more spectacular after climbing to the top!

  8. Very beautiful, and so very French – you blend right into the city so well! My spot would be on the front “porch” of Brasserie Balzar, looking out at the students and professors streaming by.
    hugs,
    Janice

  9. Susan- you look “tres jolie and tres francais.” (I don’t speak a lick of French, but you get the idea.) What a lovely place. No wonder you feel relaxed and in the moment. Wonderful pictures.

  10. Bravo! Bravo! Bravo! I think we all need to go to Paris and be photographed by Carla. Photos for a lifetime! You look stunning. Is it the Paris air? Still thinking about my Breakfast At Tiffany’s moment.

  11. You look gorgeous, relaxed, chic and so very French. It must be the makeup, the atmosphere, or perhaps both.

  12. Great pictures. You look very relaxed. I love the lipstick. Was it a blend or can we buy that color somewhere?

    1. Hi Patricia, thanks so much! As so many people have asked about the lipstick, I’ll probably do a post, but in the meantime, hope this is helpful:

The makeup artist for the photo shoot used a lip pencil that is sold at Monoprix! 13. I would love to sit there all morning drinking coffee and playing backgammon. The pictures are wonderful.

  14. You look absolutely radiant. I feel the same way frequently when I am in Paris. I have never seen a cafe in the park. Can you tell me where to enter to best find it? Thanks.

    1. Charlieg, thanks very much! The cafe is called Pavillion de la Fontaine and is very near the Fountaine de Medicis.

  15. These photos have such a lovely quality to them. So light, and fresh and you look beautiful. I just love them. Congrats on living your dream Susan. You have worked hard to get here… so wonderful!

  16. I love that leopard clutch – drooling!! You look wonderful – I have just recently found your blog and look forward to more of your fabulous fashion!

  17. What beautiful photos. They capture the essence of Parisian style. You are such an inspiration. I, also loved that cafe in the Jardin du Luxembourg.

  18. The photos of you are fabulous; what a great idea! They are the best souvenir of your trip. I’m curious though, how did you manage the costume changes?

    1. Thanks so much, Cathy. Mostly in cafe restrooms. 😉 Fortunately I didn’t bring anything too cumbersome or difficult to get into or out of.

  19. I adore Paris and you look great in the photos (love the red lipstick, am inspired to try it).
But please – no guilt about one little croissant!

  20. Sitting on the quai by Pont Neuf with a warm demi-baguette and café crème (ok, this would require take-out, likely Starbucks…) taking in magnificent views and watching the Bateaux Mouches float by. Gorgeous photos!

  21. I have an idea. I think you should hire a photographer and have photo shoots on ALL of your trips–even Las Vegas. You are such an appealing subject and you photograph so well. I can imagine how much fun this was. What a great idea you had! I expect now that you are “retired” and able to devote more time to what you love, we are going to see all sorts of creativity.

  22. Great photographs. I too, love your lipstick on you. My place would be on a terrace overlooking the Amalfi Coast, in some ways, I’m the most me there.

  23. Susan you are wearing my favorite, go to, always elegant style. All black with a pop of something, this time it is the leopard bag and lipstick, love it.
I always remember that all black silhouette with the Ted Baker shawl you have. It is the best outfit you have ever worn, this is along those lines.

Do you know, every time I have ran into any store in Europe selling Ted Baker I try to find that shawl. It would be an investment piece. I have found the pattern but not in that particular shawl. I keep hoping it is left on a rack somewhere never purchased, when I was in Spain it was big sale time and alot of Ted Baker on sale, but that item was no where to be found. In Santorini there was a great designer store, but still no luck.

Anyway, I think, this is your best style. Such a striking silhouette with the very light hair and pop of lipstick and long line of black.

My Breakfast at Tiffany’s moment… I live in Europe in one of the best vacation areas of the Netherlands with a wonderful view from my balcony so I have it every time I sit outside with a nice Dutch coffee. I also go every Saturday into my local German city all by myself before the hubby meats me for dinner, and sit on a terrace with a nice drink and watch the world go by. Sometimes I pull out my “positive journal” and just scribble lovely things in it, or read a book or magazine.

Life has been to crappy and I have been through too much to let any of the good moments pass without enjoying them. So I try daily to enjoy whatever and whenever I can.
Learned a lot from it all and so the moment you share with us in your lovely photos from vacation I try to have daily, somehow, even with such unpredictable weather here.

  24. What a beautiful fashion shoot, Susan!! This is Parisian perfection. Your outfit is tres chic! I was enjoying the same delicious treats (also my go to breakfast) nearby on this day. So much fun to relive the memories of Paris.
