Shoe Happens

Freda Salvador Twiggy slingbacks in black. Details at une femme d'un certain age.

Buckle Up!

Ever since my visit to Paris in October, my style radar has been scanning for shoes with interesting buckle details.

While out running errands this week, I passed by the Freda Salvador boutique, and out of the corner of my eye, noticed a gold buckle in the window display. Cue the cartoon character head swivel and eye pop, complete with screeching brake sound effects. I did a quick about-face and went in to try them on.

This style is called “Twiggy.” The Sales Associate said they’d just arrived. My usual size (7.5) was a perfect fit. They totally hit my Style Sweet Spot, and they’re really comfortable too!

Have you enjoyed any serendipitous finds lately?

  1. These are wonderful for two reasons: those buckles! And the slingback. I have wide toes, and shoes like these let me buy a bigger size and not have the heel flapping around loosely.

  2. YES – I bought the gold chunky-heeled, tasseled BUCCI loafers (not the Gucci ones you have, but the Bandolino look-alikes you recommended)…They have been getting RAVE reviews! So much so, I just bought the wine velvet ones…I’m pretty done with high heels…thanks for the inspiration!!

  3. Please show us some socks along with your amazing outfits. Living in Canada we can’t always go without! Love your posts!

    1. I have to smile. I have lived in Los Angeles and Toronto, and the shoe thing is easy to figure out. Here in California, we wear our “winter” shoes when the temperatures dip (which they used to…) with socks. We also have our “no sock” shoes for less chilly days. Maybe it’s just me, but I wouldn’t want to see these cute back-strap shoes with socks. Maybe some black tights, but not fuzzy socks.

      1. Yes, that’s pretty much it. If it’s cold enough for boots, I’ll wear socks, otherwise will go without or wear “shoe liners.”

  4. Absolutely gorgeous shoes, Sue. Are they padded or cushioned at all? Getting to the point where flat, hard soles are hard on the joints. Fabulous find.

    1. Thanks, Beryl. To be honest, there’s a little bit of cushioning, not a lot. They’re not as hard in the soles as some flats I’ve tried recently.

  5. Hahahaha! Love your “Looney Tunes” shopping technique. And those shoes are marvelous. Just the thing to upgrade a look. Congratulations!

  6. Oh they are just gorgeous. But then I saw the price and gasped. I just can’t justify paying almost $400 for a pair of shoes. yikes.
