Thursday Miscellany: Les Délices du Printemps
Dans le jardin…
The lavender in our front yard is quite happy! And the bees love it too. Many varieties of lavender do quite well here in Southern California, with the added benefit of not requiring a lot of water.

I wish we could buy in the US, the espridilles from Europe, they come in many styles and colors, and are very inexpensive compared to here. I’ve wondered for years why we don’t have them.
Try La Manual Alpargatera, lamanual.com. Just got back from Barcelona, and this old shop still makes them by hand. I ran into a lady who said that she has to come home to Barcelona every year from the states to replace last year’s pairs. They now ship to the states.
What delights me most about spring is everything! My favorite time of year. Full of hope and promise!
So lovely to see your lavendar in bloom! Here on the Central Coast (California), our lavendar is just waking from a long wet and cold winter. Thank you for a delightful ode to Spring!
I’ve had my little lavender bush for three or four years now. Of course, right now she is living indoors, in my home office, but with luck I’ll move her outside to one of the balconies, along with other faithful plants. She was a wee plant and my plant vendor gave her to me; probably because he simply had too many left over at the end of season, but I’ve taken care of her and she rewards me with her lovely fragrance.
La lavande also grows up here, in the countryside between Montréal and Vermont, though I doubt that it winters over. Eileen, I agree about espadrilles. In southern France and Spain, they can be made to measure for a reasonable price. Remember that over there, men wear them as much as women do, and they look very sexy – not just the young men.
