‘Twas the day after Christmas / With all of the eating / Some ease through the middle / Was what I was needing.
No lovely post-holiday stupor pour moi. I was back to work bright and early Thursday morning, but snug was out so I chose some comfortable (and forgiving!) favorites.
Our weather is now set to Desert Mode™ which means that it’s a) Very, Very Dry b) Very Cold at night and early in the morning and c) Warm in the afternoon (at least in the sun), so strategic layering is crucial. I’m really loving this pea coat, which is perfect for early morning dog walking.
There’s something about a striped top that makes me feel just a bit less frumpy, even if it’s generously cut like this one. The top and scarf are both J.Crew…the scarf from last year and the top from earlier this year.
Earrings: Nadri, no longer available, similar // Coat: J.Crew // Top: J.Crew, no longer available, similar // Tank: (not visible, worn for warmth) Eileen Fisher // Scarf: J.Crew, no longer available, similar color/pattern // Jeans: Eileen Fisher // Boots: Belle by Sigerson Morrison

My most comfortable go to favorites are ponte pants from Eileen Fisher. My newest pair was marketed as “skinny” and are gray. I wear them with various knit long sleeved tops and a number of different scarves. I also like my “Frankie” pants from Worth NY. I have them in black, gray, navy, and brown. They are more structured heavy knit pants with seaming as detail. Since Texas is often quite warm in the wintertime, I enjoy wearing a ribbed short sleeved turtleneck and various other short sleeved sweaters with my pants.
Very nice look! I wore a stretch denim skirt to work yesterday, with a roomy black tee and knit vest – comfort for post-eating-big day : >
Cool you order the JCrew coat! Looks good with the stripes and scarf. I love this type of coat, you look great.

The floral scarf with the striped top is beautiful…I’m going to have to try that combo. I know what you mean about being stuffed. The day before Christmas break started I was my normal weight, but right now I feel like I’ve doubled in size!

Just 4 or 5 weeks before Christmas I replaced most of my jeans with smaller sizes, so I’m being pretty conscious of food intake right now!
Your combo looks both chic and comfortable, a good compromise if you have to be back at your desk so quickly. (In Canada, Boxing Day is a Statutory Holiday)
Hi Frances, I know what you mean about watching intake, but I think probably more salty foods than I’m used to combined with the occasional cookie had me feeling a bit bloated. A couple days of diligence and lots of water should set things right. 🙂
My loss is still recent enough that I haven’t quite figured out how to relax into reasonable holiday eating . . . I hope to get there because too much vigilance is tiresome.
Love the floral scarf with the striped tee…such a great look…and I really like your P-coat! I worked out aggressively twice this week…so i don’t feel too bad …YET!
Susan, you look fabulous! That scarf is wonderful and actually makes the entire outfit. Happy New Year !!!
You look great and the scarf is a divine touch. I’ve been watching this turned up cuff trend and wondering if I can pull it off as I’m short — you do it well.
Such a lovely post Christmas look my dear! I have also pulled out some ‘forgiving’ pieces for my post holiday look :))
I love your outfit, which could easily be one of mine as it includes stripes and a colourful scarf. Today I am wearing boot cut Lands End jeans, which I don’t need to turn up as they’re petite! With it I am wearing a navy and red striped top, a shiny necklace (cleaned in my new ultrasonic machine!) and what I call a grey waistcoat that I think some of you would call a vest.
My normal comfort outfit is just simple jeans, t-shirt, and tennis shoes. We are having a very unusual over cast day in the desert so may have to pull out my new pair of clark boots today 🙂

You look great – and so sorry that the US can’t adopt our lovely Boxing Day tradition (and holiday). I’m a Principal, so very spoiled indeed – off until January 6th!
Love the outfit and your blog – a “must-read” for me.
Poor California is as dry as a bone! I dislike it very much. The other morning it was 25 degrees, then 68 by early afternoon. Talk about hard to dress for! I usually wear boyfriend jeans with a lightweight cable knit sweater that sometimes I will wear a tee shirt underneath if I get too warm. I also bring along a trench. I am thinking about getting one of those J Crew pea coats. My friend has the navy one like yours and she looks so cute in it! Just like you 😉
Adrienne, I know…where’s our rain???
Jeans and ankle boots, always.
First off, I do want to thank you for being a style inspiration for me. I adore the way you simplifiy and yet always seem to make each and every outfit so classy. Even on days when you want to let the waist out you still manage to do it with style.
J’aime beaucoup le caban de JC Crew!
The boots are really, really awesome!
Bonne Année!

You look so French, madame … petite fille from the 60’s looking so adorable. Great, classic combo that’s so you.
Happy New Year. I wish you a perfect 2014!
I have trousers/jeans from Jigsaw in either black or dark purple that are so comfortable, two way stretch yet cut beautifully. Ankle boots from Ecco which I have had for ages and either my grey pea coat from Jigsaw or my Gil Bret black down filled coat if it is very cold. I prefer long sleeved thick tees or very light jumpers as I can get hot easily and need to layer with a cardi.
What a wonderful union of floral & stripes 🙂
The peacoat looks awesome on you!
Love you outfit. Simply chic.
