rolling with Jenna
Oh, Pinterest, you foul temptress!! From the moment this shirt from J.Crew appeared in my feed, I had to track it down. Stripes, like them I do. But to carry the Yoda-ism a bit further, “sorry I am not,” because this is a fabulous shirt that is so easy to wear. (Available in Petite and Tall too.)
Do you do the “Jenna roll” on your sleeves? I’m still getting the hang of it, but find it works better with crisper fabric than with soft silk.

(Beware, sound levels seem to be rather loud on this one.) Maybe I’m crazy, but I love the jeans she’s wearing here.

Oooh, I’m tempted to go all copy-cat on you here! Nicely done!
Love it, I do. Great shirt and shoes, and thanks for the Jenna clip. I would so raid her closet.
Thanks for sharing with Visible Monday, too! xo.
The way you felt about the shirt is the way I feel about your cuff…ever since I have seen it I have been in search of something similar…wish I had the extra funds for that one! I just love it! You look awesome in the whole outfit…i am glad you got the shirt! I have been doing “the Roll” for a long time…i called it the Pam roll, but Jenna can have it! Have a great weekend.
Love it ! You look amazing .i absolutely love the skirt and shoes 🙂 have a lovely weekend 🙂 x

That’s a great video! I confess to using the no-no rolling technique, but will try the Jenna/Pam roll at the next opportunity. I enjoyed the lipstick application contest, too!
Love your shirt.
Well, thank you! I had no idea how to do the Jenna Roll exactly and now I do. Merci!
Hi Pseu! Just back from a marathon 10 day driving trip San Diego to Santa Barbara & LA. We were there the hottest week of the year and I had all the right clothes. Why? One big reason is I have been color coordinating my purchases. Another, I buy & pack in a carry on bag. Most of the clothes required no ironing. All were comfortable and classic. I really felt great. I think much of that has to do with your blog advice on all of the above. I read a few other beauty/fashion blogs but most of them don’t resonate with me. Kudos to you on hitting all the right notes so often. I believe you make a difference for a great many of us “women of a certain age.”
Ohhhhhh… GREAT LOOK! That shirt is on my list as well,
Love the Jenna roll, have been doing it a long time, but occasionally do the no-no one as well, depending on the shirt and the look I am going for. I only seem to feel comfortable with my sleeves rolled up in some manner.
You look FANTASTIC in that shirt. I like you in things that have just a soupcon (sorry I don’t know how to do the thing below the “c”) of tailoring. And the stripes give both definition and a certain jauntiness– great!
The video reminds me of a lot of what I find wanting in the modern “manner”, to be quite honest. Those women may be perfectly lovely people in “real life”, but golly, when did that impressed-with-oneself style start to pass for sophistication? Although, looking back, other fashion people like Diana Vreeland could certainly come across as insufferable, in a “let them eat cake” kind of way…
I meant to say, and forgot, that I love the length of that shirt on you, and the proportions of your outfit. That shirt, although beautiful, would not work in that way for me, although the look alone is inspiration enough.
Oh yes, I love that shirt and the Jenna roll 🙂
I’ll be in London in November and will definitely visit the big J.Crew store there although I heard there is the first one in Munich now.

She has made such a difference in J Crew! I am still practicing the effortless rolled sleeve and the 1/2 tuck shirt which I just can seem to pull off.
BTW, I host a weekly TBT Fashion link up and hope you will join me (it’s up on the blog now).

Hi Alice, thanks for the reminder! I’ve linked up.
Love the shirt…I can see why you were obsessed! It looks great on you. I am so going to try and cuff like that. 🙂

My smile when I read the first sentence of this entry reminded me of the reason I so enjoy your blog – your writing is a delight. And, I really like that shirt – the long-over-lean potential is very, very tempting.
Loved that video. Suddenly I’m very busy rolling up sleeves. Now I’ve got to create that half tucked untucked look. just can’t do it yet. Great looking!
Is it prudish to suggest the topic of the open blouse? I truly fail to see the fashion point that is made by it. It seems more exhibitionist? Or is it a flaunt-if-you-have-it (as in trim body) statement? Otherwise, I enjoyed the roll tip. I have neglected my stripes (we were inseparable at first). The vertical ones are a nice switch!
I so agree…I was completely distracted by the shirt unbuttoned to the navel.
Nice look! Personally, I am often tempted by J Crew shirts and blouses but find them just too long in the body (perhaps because their originator is so tall?). On me, it’s too much material to tuck but tends to look sloppy if left untucked.
You look so classy! Love the shirt !
Great outfit! 🙂 Anything stripes is a win win for me.

Fantastic look! I’m such a fan of stripes and I love love love the mules you paired them with. Wonderful.
you look soooooooooooooo chic in a pair of jeans that it is unreal
What a lot of fun, live and learn.I rolled my sleeves like this most times for lazyness, lol
Tons and tons of love

I’ve always thought that vertical stripes are more flattering and this shirt is spot on! My son actually rolls his sleeves the ‘chic’ way and I was trying to teach him the ‘proper’ not so chic way hahaha! Thank God he refused!
CDC Hermes cuff, oh my! I can’t focus on anything else. <3!
Cute video. Love your look too. Very classic and chic.

That’s a nice shirt, just the length I like to wear shirts.
I do love that you have grown your fringe, bangs?, well what’s the word? longer, it really suits you.
Oh, yesssss. Can’t wait to see it peeping out from under a sweater in deep winter time!
I love the Jenna role! And, I really love your striped shirt. It’s a great wardrobe piece to have and you look great in it. cherie at stylenudge.com
Update on the Jenna roll: I was excited to do it with the blouse that I picked out for today. I soon realized how much better it lends itself to small activities, i.e. sitting at a desk, out shopping, etc., and not great for an afternoon with my grandson! I soon switched to the “industrial roll” for the remainder of the day. Still, I was very pleased that I even remembered to try it. 🙂
Love your look … always love Jenna’s tips … thanks for sharing both!
Love the video clip. The Jenna roll works great for shirts but I find with a denim jacket a cuff flip or the old roll works better because of the thickness. You have great style!
