Road Tripping
Adirondack chairs on the bluff overlooking the ocean |
Our weekend getaway to Dana Point provided some much needed down time in an absolutely lovely and relaxing setting. We arrived Friday night and never left the grounds until we checked out Sunday mid-day. We settled in and ate, and worked on our itinerary for the Scotland/England trip (sans the normal interruptions of home) , and ate, and took walks around the grounds, and ate, and read, and ate.
Ahi salad – YUM!! |
Freshly hand made potato chips…these were SO good!! |
Dressed for sunset drinks at the terrace bar…I was mighty glad to have that scarf! |
Wed woses, how womantic! |
The floral arrangements and decor in the common areas were spectacular.
Breezy! |
Wendy Brandes “Medici” poison ring on its first outing. No, I didn’t poison anyone… |
View from the terrace. Those little dots in the water are the die-hard surfers. |
The weather was chilly for most of our stay, and foggy in the mornings. We were delighted that we’d been upgraded to a room with a gas firepit on the patio.
After drinks, before dinner. |
Finally Sunday morning the fog burned off, and the weather warmed up. Surf was up, and all of the wet-suited Moondoggies and Gidgets were out shooting the curls.
Catch a wave and your sittin’ on top of the world! |
I cannot recommend the Ritz-Carlton Laguna Niguel highly enough. The grounds are beautiful, the rooms luxurious and comfortable, the location is spectacular, and the staff are incredibly helpful, friendly and accommodating. These people take “customer service” to another level, and one gets the feeling that the staff genuinely care that your experience is the best it can be. This was a splurge for us (even with a discounted rate) but we felt quite pampered during our entire stay.
Do you take weekend getaways? Do you have a favorite locale?
Be sure to go check out what everyone’s wearing this week over at Patti’s Visible Monday (Not Dead Yet Style)!

I have salad envy…it looks delish!
Our favorite weekend getaway is our own stone farmhouse. It’s just 85 miles from our house in the city. We refer to our farm as our private resort. Our house is a half mile into our land, surrounded by a forest of pine and oak trees. It overlooks our pastures and we can see two of our ponds. We often lock the gate at the highway when we arrive and don’t emerge until Monday morning.
For vacations, we love the central coast of California, especially Big Sur. We stay at two places–Deetjens Big Sur Inn (rustic) and The Ventana (luxurious).
Susan, your farm sounds wonderful!
What a lovely and relaxing setting. After being blessed with 6+ inches of new snow overnight, your photo’s provide hope for Spring.
Glad you had fun, you do look wonderful. I am still loving the Eileen Fisher Raincoat you talked me into Beautiful pictures. I love Ritz Carlton. Especially the one in Naples Florida!
Leigh, thank you. I’m so glad you like the raincoat. It’s perfect for more temperate climates.
It looks like a fabulous place to have a romantic getaway. You look very relaxed and that poison ring is quite beautiful! It’s exciting that you have your itinerary sorted out for your upcoming trip.
Sounds to me like a perfect weekend 🙂
hostess, thank you.
Our weekend getaway spot is Point No Point. Although Hastings House on Salt Spring Island is deluxe accommodation but it is quite a lot more expensive. I would recommend both!
Aaaah, heaven.
That. Ring! So gloriously lux!
Bella Q, thanks! Like all of Wendy’s designs, it’s not only lovely but exquisitely engineered.
Looks stunning! I’m a huge believer in regular small breaks. We’re off to Spain for three nights for Easter. It’ll hopefull be a good 15 degrees warmer than it is here!
Eleanorjane, hope you’re enjoying your time in Spain.
Sounds completely enviable.
I love weekend getwaways like ours to Lake Garda last week.
It gives a real push to the daily routine.

You look fabulous in this outfit and the beautiful color up against your face. We need to do this more often…when we do, we usually head to the nearby Texas Hill Country and one of the great Bed & Breakfast locations. You trip looks like it was just perfect!
Pam, thank you very much! It’s amazing how restorative even just a weekend can be.
You look fabulous! Love your ring too – was that an anniversary gift? We’ve been to that hotel, and it’s really lovely. Happy Anniversary again.
Oh, and our favorite weekend getaway is to the Ojai Valley Inn. We even have a particular room that we stay in.
Kathy, thank you! The ring was actually something I purchased for myself. I’d had my eye on it for quite some time. I have never been to Ojai if you can believe that, maybe will go next time we decide to get away for the weekend.
It sounds and looks wonderfully relaxing. That ring is stunning, I love Wendy’s work. And you, you look great!
Sulky Kitten, thanks so much!
Everything about this post is decadent — I’m not sure which I like more, your beautiful nude pumps or the fire pit. Lucky you.
thedishroom, thank you!
Oh beautiful, so romantic! Was the ring, which is beautiful, an anniversary gift?
Duchesse, thank you so much! Alas, though le monsieur has many outstanding qualities, being a gifter of jewelry is not one of them. It was a long-coveted present to myself.
Love your photos of the weekend. You look so sophisticated and svelte, dear Femme. I hope the WB poison ring was a love token. J’adore! We have been to the RC Half Moon Bay and can attest to the excellent service and attention to detail. MY younger son now in management for RC’s boutique hotel spin off, Capella Hotels.
Margeurite, thank so much! I love Half Moon Bay, and would love to visit the RC there.
Very relaxing. Love the scarf and the nude shoes. Was wondering where they came from?
Chicatanyage, thank you. The shoes are from Stuart Weitzman, style “Poco.” I love these and have in multiple colors and finishes. Here’s link:

Susan, you look beautiful, relaxed, happy and chic. How do you do it? And I’m so glad to see the poison ring on its first outing. Yay for stunning WendyB pieces!
Susan P, thank you so much!
I´m glad you had a wonderful weekend.
An honest answer to your question – no time for weekend getaways.
Looks like a slice of heaven, Une Femme. Ah, the fire pit – what a wonderful touch. And your Wendy Brandes ring is simple exquisite.
Patti, thank you! Wendy’s pieces really are extraordinary.
“Wed woses, how womantic.” I can’t WAIT to use that line! PS: you look great!
Debbie, thank you!
It sounds like a dream weekend…the Ritz Carlton Laguna Niguel is one of my all time faves! xoxo
What a lovely place. And those red roses are romantic!
I love that ring – but I might be dangerous if I had it!
Your scarf compliments your hair color beautifully. How nice that you had a lovely time. You seem very much like the kind of person who richly deserves ìt..
I’ve only left my two kids (dogs) in someone elses’s care twice in the last 11 years. I’ve also spent the last two+ years literally rebuilding a flood ravaged home. We don’t get away much LOL.
Spashionista (Alicia)
Spashionista, ok now you have to dish. Who would you poison?? 😀 Thank you for the very kind comment. Don’t know how much we deserve it, but we did enjoy our weekend break very, very much. I’m so sorry to hear about your flooded home; I hope it’s close to being fully repaired?
You look so relaxed and happy. I’m glad that you could get away.
Wow you are looking fabulous – and love you in the scarf – colour perfect… and such a wonderful looking place – just the kind of place for working out itineraries…. I love weekends away – they are so refreshing – almost as good or just as good as a longer vacation I think. S x
Sarah, thank you! Yes, sometimes a weekend is easier and less stressful than a full on vacation.
Isn’t that lovely! The ocean! And our weather has been so nice this past weekend, hope it continues.
Sounds heavenly. Your photos speak a thousand words and you look relaxed, happy and chic (all at the same time). And Wendy Brandes ring? Spectacular!
Style Crone, thank you so much!
Beautiful! *sigh*
The scent of the air, the sound of the waves breaking, the salt … *sigh*
greetings from Vienna, covered in snow. Again!! The experts aren’t sure yet: is this a “once in 50-years” or “once in 100-years”-event. But this is for sure: no one is going to miss it, when this event is over. 😉
Paula, yes you in Europe and the eastern part of our continent are both experiencing quite the extended winter! I hope it’s spring soon for you all.
Sounds like a great weekend getaway! Wove the Woses!! 🙂
You really look terrific! I’m thinking you might need to stop losing weight. You’re gonna be stick thin! Love the SW kitten heels!
gracefully50, thank you. I think the angle of that one picture has me looking more elongated that I actually do… 😉 These kitten heels are my favorite non-boot shoes.
looks so lovely and peaceful! My husband and I don’t do getaways but we are huge fans of road trips, since wo both enjoy driving around and visiting new places.
You look chic and at ease in your outfit and the ring ups the cool factor 🙂
coffeeaddict, thank you. I love road trips too, wish we could manage them more often.
Lovely outfit, Sue! Oh how wonderful it would be to make weekend trips to the ocean. We like weekends in Chicago, Louisville and Lexington, South Haven Michigan. We are making a much longer trip this weekend: Eureka Springs, Arkansas for a family wedding. Thx for sharing your trip with us! Happy Easter!
Crystal, thanks so much! Hope you’re having a lovely time on your trip.
I was at Dana Point 5 years ago. Your photos brought back memories–thanks. Love, love the nude pumps.
Flattering50, thank you! I’ve been pleasantly surprised at how well they coordinate with a variety of outfits.
So happy with how the ring looks on you! Glad we got the right fit!
WendyB, thanks again! Yes, I was so delighted when the fit was perfect right off.
Even though you look 20 years younger in this setting, how much better is it to be with the Great Kahuna than the bumbling Moondoggie. This is exactly the perfect getaway. Glad you got to go!
Melanie, yes Moondoggie was rather feckless, wasn’t he? Thanks!
