wearing: black white denim

J.Crew silk shirt, Eileen Fisher sweater, Saint Laurent small Sac de Jour

(If we’re going for accuracy, those dark stripes in the shirt are actually a charcoal grey.) And yes, that’s a crew neck sweater. It was purchased prior to and survived the Great Crew Neck Hissy Fit because I really like it, and find it has all kinds of styling possibilities. (Mitigating factors, remember.) I’m still not tired of black-white-denim outfits, and love finding new iterations. I was so pleased with how the sweater and shirt worked together.

Jewels of the Vineyard

The bracelet is a one-of-a-kind piece c/o Jewels of the Vineyard, and really suits my style! It’s made from leather, with silver and Swarovski crystal beads. (Similar here.) Cheryl Thompson uses leather, beads and silver pieces to create some really unique and lovely bracelets. Each collection is named after a wine region, and has a distinct aesthetic. I was really impressed with the quality and workmanship, and the pieces are very reasonably priced for something hand crafted and unique. Do check out the entire collection. (These bracelets would make great gifts too.)

  1. What a great look. I have been a real fan of crop top sweaters and I especially love to wear them over a longer shirt. I love the striped shirt though, something I have never tried. The bag is just perfect. This look though casual is put together in a way I might be able to sneak into a faculty meeting in it.

  2. I am also featuring one of her bracelets today….she has beautiful jewelry. I need to try on a sweater like this and see how it looks…it is perfect on you!

  3. Ooooo you’ve inspired me. I’ve been trying to figure out what to wear to a Christmas party we attend. I want something casual but a bit special. Going now to haul out my strpied silk Theory blouse… ans see how it looks under a sweater.

  4. Wow! I love this look on you! Such a sharp, fresh interpretation of black-white-and-denim — surprising how much impact you get from the relatively small amount of strong graphic fabric interrupting the solids.

  5. Really interesting combo and proportions. If you continue your disaffection with crewnecks a v-neck could deliver very similar vibe if the bottom is cut straight enough.

  6. This look is so you – you look great and very comfortable! Love your classy bag and heels with this style.
I am currently wearing a lot of black again and call it “eternal love”…

    Have a lovely weekend,

  7. You look so polished yet casual. Love the look! Maybe I am naive but I am surprised that anyone but a celeb would have a $2,800 bag. If it lasted for years I could probably afford it but I would be too afraid to take ti out in public.

    1. I’m a big fan of handbags and I’d *love* to carry that Saint Laurent bag if I could afford to. A bag like that will last for ages if you treat it well. My mom has carried her Yves St. Laurent bag for over 8 years and it still looks great.

Love this look. And I bought a Jewels of the Vineyard bracelet for a relative for xmas. Thanks for the tip 🙂

  8. Stopped by to take a look at your pumps. I have been looking for a nice pair of pumps for an upcoming holiday party (sans toe cleavage!) and haven’t found anything worthy of purchased. I’ll check these out 😉

  9. You pull this off well! I don’t think my shape would read well with these lengths. Good ideas for how to use my longer sweater with side openings and button down shirt, so thank you. I realize that I prefer crew neck sweaters in the colder weather for the warmth on my neck. (I couldn’t manage a scarf on all day indoors. It’s an outdoor accessory for me!) I love the bracelet. I notice similar clasps on them but how do they work? The leather on them looks so soft. Looks like I’ll be taking out my low pumps in order to mend a bout of Plantar Fasciitis. My feet actually do feel better with the heel raised. Who knew flats could be bad for you. lol

  10. Very classic style and that handbag is all kinds of fabulous.

I don’t have a colour mix that I rely on since I love all colour but having red hair means I often gravitate towards an Autumn palette.

  11. Thank you for your inspiration! This sweater/striped blouse combo looks great. I realized I had a long striped button up almost identical in my closet. In fact, I have one in a smaller stripe in a coral color as well. I have just put together 9 new outfits from my own wardrobe because of your post! I get so excited when that happens! 🙂

  12. You had a “crew neck hissy fit? Think I remember something about that, but see how reasonable you are about keeping what works? You betcha. Love, love, love the stripes with this really fine looking croppy high-low sweater! You look charming, and as pretty as always! Nifty proportions!
I’ve been digging out my shirts to wear under crew-neck sweaters and tissue Ts, and am enjoying them so much more with my hair short. And my minimizer bras … that makes a difference too, for short necked, booby old me! I’m inspired with your stripes, and am going to look for a striped button down I have somewhere ….
