Street Style, Beverly Hills Edition
I resisted the urge to title this post, “Why Don’t We Do It In The Road.” 😉
This street is near my dentist’s office, and every time I drive past it I think what a great backdrop it would be for an outfit shot. So Saturday evening as le Monsieur and I were on our way out to dinner, I grabbed the camera and asked him to make a slight detour. He was very jumpy about me (and the camera) poised in the middle of the street even though there was minimal traffic, so it was a very rushed photo session.
That’s the Theory top I picked up at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, and it’s definitely a winner. (Even though the style is currently sold out in Black in most sizes, keep checking back if you’re interested. Often items become available again once people start returning wrong sizes, etc.) The silk is opaque enough that I don’t need a camisole underneath, but lightweight enough to not stifle. This one’s definitely going with me on our Hong Kong trip in a few months.
The glasses are the same pair I’ve been wearing the last few months, but as I’m often too lazy to switch back and forth between regular glasses and sunglasses, I had the “Transitions” lenses added which automatically darken in bright light. Sometimes function wins out over form, but I think these look good as sunglasses too.
I’m usually not a clutch gal, but had picked up this one from Clare V. last year with a gift card and it seemed the perfect bag for the outfit. The bracelet is one of the two I purchased in Paris at the Metal Pointus boutique in the Marais.
Earrings: vintage from Beladora. Similar style with emeralds. // Top: Theory // Jeans: NYDJ purchased last year, similar (and on sale!) // Clutch: Clare V. purchased last year, similar // Bracelet: Metal Pointus. Similar shape in silver // Shoes: Belle by Sigerson Morrison.
These Belle by Sigerson Morrison wedges are quickly becoming one of my favorite pairs of shoes. They are comfortable, walkable, and look great with just about everything.
What’s the craziest place you’ve ever posed for a photograph?
I’ll be linking up (bien sur!) with Visible Monday at Not Dead Yet Style, because it doesn’t get much more visible than standing in the middle of the street!

“The Outfit That Stopped Traffic!” My favourite outfit for summer … white jeans with a black top. I love the Theory top you have on. I wear a lot of things from Theory. I find them classic, well cut and edgy enough to not be boring.
I can just hear my husband groaning if I had asked him to take my picture in the middle of the street!
It’s an awesome backdrop for a picture! And this outfit is awesome! Theory makes such quality pieces. I love the whole look!
Beautiful top! I love the off-black color.
I tried transition lenses & HATED them! When I go out into bright light, I want lens that are dark NOW, not in 5 minutes while they change! And, if I’m driving, the lens usually aren’t dark enough because the inside of the car is darker than the outside that I’m looking at. But the lens are darkening in response to the inside of the car. I took the glasses back & had them darkened permanently.
Hong Kong???!!!! How exciting.
And probably Vietnam too! More to follow once plans are firmed up.
My daughter went to Vietnam for their honeymoon – they LOVED it.
My father and stepmother went to Vietnam several years ago and my dad couldn’t stop raving about it.
I admire everyone who takes their outfit photos in public. I like how these simple pieces allow your accessories to shine – your glasses are a great shape, and I love those wedges!
Dreamy backdrop and excellent shoes – couldn’t ask for more.
Love those magestic palm trees as a backdrop.
Your outfit looks cool and chic…and your street style photo shoot looks natural despite the fear of oncoming traffic!
Love your outfit and they’re great shoes. You’re really rocking the white jeans this summer.
I like this minimal outfit a great deal. The shoes are fabulous, and so is the clutch. Perfection.
Now I’ll be singing that song all day! What a gorgeous road to do it in though. I love the shoes especially, and your glasses. Joni has the cutest pair of glasses with Transitions lenses, and they look great. I used to have them years ago, but they never cleared completely inside. I guess they’re much better now.
You look lovely. Very good photo Le Monsieur is an excellent photographer. Give him my regards.
You’re brave! Although you look so great you could stop the traffic anyway. . . 😉
Look forward to hearing more details about that upcoming trip . . . exciting!
Gorgeous photo of a gorgeous woman. So creative. And those shoes are to die for. To. Die. For.
Love those shoes!!!
Oh I love that John Lennon song! And you look cool and elegant – love those wedges. Thanks for sharing with Visible Monday, xo.
Sue, I got the Theory top and I think I’m going to keep it. But just taking it home from the office in my tote bag got it all wrinkled! Do you think it will travel okay (to Hong Kong, to Paris) if packed properly or rolled?? I see it’s dry clean only too. So would like your travel packing expertise!
Judy, try hanging it in the bathroom when you shower and see if those wrinkles fall out. I’ll try hand washing it to see how it does and whether it requires any additional pressing.
I too got the top and was hoping I could hand wash instead of dry clean. Let us know how your hand washing turns out.
Merci! I did that and at first the wrinkles were still there, but now this morning it looks pretty good!
(Have you ever taken a little spray bottle of Wrinkle-Free on a trip? Says it’s for colorfast natural fabrics.)
Technically silk is a protein fiber, not a plant fiber like cotton, and I would be very cautious about using an untried chemical on it. Some chemicals, such as chlorine bleach, which can safely be used on cotton will dissolve animal fiber such as wool or silk. This is also true of enzymatic stain removers. In days of old, when I tied a silk scarf in my low ponytail everyday (you can tell I am a child of the 60’s), I used to wash the silk scarf by hand and flatten it over the side of the bathtub (most silk washes nicely by hand, no matter what the label says). It would dry as smoothly as if I had ironed it. You might play with that idea.
thanks, Ellen!
I admire your commitment. I often take tough and even dangerous photos. Once, my friends (driving alongside me in a car) photographed me wearing a pink tutu on my motorcycle. I came very, very close to crashing ’cause I was focused on posing, not on riding.
Can you please share the brand name of cool glasses? Perfect on your face!
Hi Elle, thanks! They’re a French brand called Face à Face.
Impeccable! The epitome of a great outfit. Every piece fabulous on it’s own, and oh so chic when put together 😉

Ah! I’ve been trying to resist the desire for a leopard-print clutch but you are making it so hard!! 🙂
You just look great! Ii think I recognize the street. Tried to buy the top but as you said it’s sold out. Love the shoes also. Just all in all parfait!
I always love your looks which are always the perfect amount of accessories to make it so chic! Beautiful palm tress as background – you look like you came right out of a magazine!

I really like your clean simplicity of mixing b&w with leo! Simple and extravagant. xo Sabina @Oceanblue Style
Wow, that bag is my favorite leopard print bag I’ve seen. It would get me to carry a clutch too.
I’ve noticed that you have some Stella and Dot things. The same leather bracelets I have. My daughter sells it and boy is it ever tempting.
Love your street style today. I can’t think of any place strange that I’ve taken a selfie, but trying to get a selfie in with the Space Needle in the background is more difficult than one would think.
A Hong Kong reader here, adding my support for a Vietnam trip. It’s one of my favorite places in Asia!
tried to order the white jeans on sale but they are out of that color/combination. wah.
