A Walk On The Wild Side
While I don’t believe in wearing anything just because it’s trendy, I do see trends as an opportunity to find a better selection of the items we’d wear anyway. This fall, animal prints are a big trend and I’ve been seeing them everywhere. For someone like me who loves a good leopard print, that’s great news.
Leopard delivers a lot of visual bang for the buck, and a little goes a long way. And one of the easiest and most fun ways to incorporate a little animal print is with footwear. Above, the leopard shoes add a nice exclamation point to a simple outfit.
Sweater | Top | Necklace | Shoes | Jeans | Bag
When it comes to leopard or other animal print footwear, I prefer to stick to simple, classic designs without a lot of other embellishment. The print and/or texture is the statement here.
Walking Wild
The leopard print on these sharp Chelsea boots is a bit more blended and subtle.
That shaped wooden heel on these slingbacks doesn’t compete with the leopard, but takes it up another level.
Here’s a fun pair of slip-on sneakers at a budget-friendly price.
A classic style like these driving moccasins helps keep leopard print grounded.
Many of you have told me that you like leopard print, but need to stick to cooler colors. Here you go!
And if you can handle a little more heel, these boots are totally gorgeous in person!
But I get it, leopard isn’t to everyone’s taste.
Reptile prints are also part of the fall animal print trend. A bit of pink softens the look of snake print on this d’Orsay flat.In black and metallic, the snake print on these slip-ons is more textural and abstract.
Croc-embossed finishes are another popular interpretation of animal prints. I love the cognac color and the fun texture of these loafers.
Even more subtle, croc gets the suede treatment.
These are pricey, but wow, that navy patent finish!

Every season. Every year.
I have always loved leopard prints! I have shoes, belts, sweaters, and scarves. I don’t wear more than one leopard item at a time of course. My favorites are definitely scarves and shoes!
Great post! So many good options at all price points. Have not heard of the Sies Marjan brand–do you know anything about it?
Thanks, Laura. I don’t, but am going to be keeping an eye out for it in stores.
I have a leopard print purse. I have the leopard print slip on sneakers. I usually wear them with black pants but they match well with blue jeans, white pants and khaki’s too.
I bought a leopard print shirt before a recent trip to Europe. I was living out of a carry-on so wore it many times. Discovered I was more comfortable wearing it under a blazer or sweater where the print just peaks out, not center stage. Love your outfit suggestion.
Just ordered red sweater. I am going to wear with my EF black pants, French Kandee necklace and leopard shoes. Might throw a scarf on for later in fall.
Shoes and more shoes! Who doesn’t love shoes?! Thank you for featuring a shoe that comes in narrow. In fact the driving moc comes in narrow, medium, and wide giving all feet a chance for a good fit. I do love leopard print and I appreciate the ways you suggest to wear it. All subtle touches of the print! And even though I can wear the warm shades of leopard print I find myself drawn to the cooler gray prints too.
I never wore an animal print until a couple of years ago when I bought leopard print boots in France. They’re my favourite winter footwear..I “get” animal prints now.
I have some leopard print haircalf slip ons that I purchased two years ago. but they’re a burgundy color. Last night while flipping through the Neiman’s catalogue they featured a girl with a chambray shirt, jeans and leopard sneakers. I ripped out the page as that is totally my look. Sometimes I need a reminder.
Question: The Madewell jeans are great but are not available in petites. I’ve taken to fringing my own but do you know of any with the Madewell wash that come in petite sizing?
Hi Lisa, as far as I’m aware none of the Madewell jeans are offered in Petite sizes. 🙁 J.Crew does offer several denim styles in Petite here: http://shopstyle.it/l/RLJc
Thanks!
Thank you for this post! It reminded me that I have more lizard/snake/croc items that I can pull out for this season.
Love love love leopard shoes! In fact I love all your shoe choices Susan. I have always gone for coloured shoes and boots too and I am constantly amazed that more people don’t wear them!
What could be more attractive than adding bright accessories to a black outfit for example? But most people are terribly conservative when it comes to shoes! Keep up the good work Susan, love your style!
Please share where you bought the beautiful gold earrings you have on in the picture of right of screen where you have on a green blouse and black sunshades pushed back on your head. Love them, and love your blog!
Thanks so much, Paula! These earrings are a favorite of mine too…here’s the link: http://shopstyle.it/l/RMlr
And for those of us, because of foot problems, can’t wear such pointed toes?! Love the leopard print, won’t ruin my now straight toes with pointed shoes
I’ve had a pair of leopard print flats on my wish list for awhile already, but I have a very narrow foot and I haven’t found the right fit yet. I’m sure they’re out there somewhere!
Love fun shoes! Just bought red flats, have leopard canvas slip-ons and a pair of madras slip-ons that I’ve worn all summer.
