Café au Lait with Cinnamon

That’s what these colors remind me of, anyway. On many of our visits to France during Spring and Summer, I’ve noticed both men and women wearing pants in a particular shade of faded red. I’ve seen it referred to as “Nantucket Red.” (Having never been to Nantucket, I’ll defer to the experts. 😉 )

I find sometimes that color is easier for me to incorporate on the bottom half. I’ve been on the lookout for pants in this color since those first sightings, and have finally found a pair that works for me. They’re lightweight and so comfortable. My eye is still adjusting to the more relaxed cut. I had them shortened by about an inch or so, giving me the option to wear them either cuffed or un-cuffed. I couldn’t quite get the color right in the photos…they’re less orange than they look here. (Image at link is pretty accurate, at least on my monitor.)

It seemed appropriate to include my French Kande necklace in the “Café au Lait Mix.” (They’re having a special promotion for Mothers’ Day too, details below.)

I’ve been carrying this bag quite often lately. It goes with everything, is lightweight, and has great interior organization.

A few of you have asked if these sandals are comfortable enough for all-day walking. My answer is an unequivocal YES! They’re comfortable and very stable on uneven surfaces too.

  1. This looks absolutely LOVELY! Definitely your signature polished casual style, but taken to a new level with the gorgeous colours. I also think the new haircut is a great success.

  2. I LOVE the trousers, Susan. Is it my monitor, or do they totally match the warm tone of your lipstick? Beautiful.

I also am exploring those sandals now, just what I’ve been looking for. They look so comfortable; love the little lift from the wedge.

    1. Thanks, Lisa! I can heartily recommend these sandals for comfort. And they’re very stable walking on uneven surfaces.

  3. Liverpool Jeans, my favorite – best fit most comfort with lots of stretch, has a great pair of Mineral Red skinny jeans under $100.

  4. Great colors on you! It will be interesting to see what colors you will have when you visit London.

  5. Always a great colour combo in my book Susan. Slightly off topic, I noticed a post you did on beautiful red Everlane shoes. I’m in the market for this style but in a nude, so thanks for the heads up!

  6. I like the colors of this ensemble very much! The jacket, top, shoes, and bag work perfectly together and complement the pants very well. I have to admit that I covet them, particularly the bag.

In the summer, I wear a lot of light neutrals and have found that a statement necklace is a wonderful way to add some color. While I like the French Kande jewelry, I think that a necklace and bracelets that incorporate some of the the red of the pants would give some color balance by bringing the red color into the upper half of the body.

    1. Hi BeeeBeee, thanks! It’s funny, I sometimes purchase colored jewelry and then find I rarely wear it. But if I found something in natural coral, I might be tempted…

  7. I purchased the shoes after you wore them in an earlier post, and I just love them. I will probably buy a different color this summer. Thanks so much for your posts!

    1. Thanks Stephanie! Aren’t they great? I may splurge on another pair in a different color when we’re in France.

  8. Total thumbs up on the color of those pants – even if it’s less orange in person.

I’d be tempted to wear it with something the color of my eyes, for you, that would be a blue-green agate maybe? More on the blue side so as to avoid Christmas connotations of course;). Or else the color of your hair…like silver shoes even? Am I crazy?

    1. Thanks, Lisa! I’m going to be looking for ways to mix these with cooler colors too. I’m thinking chambray to start…

      1. I bought tvese pants also and consider them more brick red than orange. I am thinking chambray as well as balb or navy stipe white tops, Jean jacket in cooler weather. A great f d! Hanks gorvthecesrlier post that mentioned them before Nordstrom sold out.

  9. Love the pants! Love those colors on you! I would love to see the pants with just a shirt or with a shorter, more lightweight jacket.

    1. I’d love to find a lighter weight jacket that works for me and isn’t black or navy! Still on the hunt…

  10. Oh Susan, I hope your upcoming color analysis lets you keep these colors because this is a great look!

  11. Very nice trousers. I have a pair of white skinnies by that brand. Good fit.
Unlike you, I like colour near my face and not soft colours but bright colours. We are all different. Luckily.
Your jewellery and bag are candy to my eyes.

    1. Hi Greetje, I’m interested to see whether my color analysis recommends soft or bright colors. You wear bright colors so well!!

  12. This is a great look for you. I do love that necklace! I also agree that it would be interesting to see this outfit with a more lightweight jacket. Question – love the look of those wedge shoes; do they pass muster for actual walking for more than just a few errands? I’m always torn between comfort and style – wait, no I’m not, I opt for comfort every time!

    1. Hi Berenice, thanks and yes! These are great for walking. In fact, I wore them all over Paris during our visit last June and my feet were quite happy.

  13. Wow, just stunning! Lovely to see you in colour. I absolutely agree that colour on the bottom allows you to wear what really wouldn’t work on top. In my case it’s a cool khaki which I wear with coral or tomato red accented tops.

  14. Stunning! Just love these colors…so me and look great on you. Wasn’t a fan of the lavender and khaki, but this is so lovely. May I suggest another brand of shoe for those of us with high in-steps? Aetrex makes wonderful shoes and sandals…the pair of sandals I took to Italy were amazing! Wore them every day for sightseeing. Thank you for all your advice and suggestions!

  15. I love this look. In the picture of your purse, where did you get those tan colored bracelets? I love those!

  16. I’m really curious about your experience with the AG Caden pant after several washes. I bought a pair last year and was very frustrated by how they bagged out in the butt and the knee after several hours of wear. I loved the fit and the color but the silhouette was a droopy mess by the end of the day. My hope is that they’ve re-engineered the fabric for this years’ line. Look forward to your longterm assessment.

  17. I think I can see the corally-red of your pants reflected in the color of your lipstick, and if you can wear that color on your lips….. you can wear that color near your face! I am holding out for a version of that coral above, and not just below…. but I do love these colors on you! If your hair was once a natural red shade, then you can wear these coral reds, not too bright, not too pastel, just right, said Goldilocks. 😉
