Friday Miscellany: Fall Outfit Idea, Color Analysis & More

It’s been a busy couple of weeks since I returned from London and Paris. Today I’m prepping to have family over tomorrow evening for the breaking of the fast at the conclusion of Yom Kippur. Making brisket, of course! So today’s post is just a few random things that have been on my mind.

This week’s favorite outfit

Susan B. wears a leopard print sweater jacket, oatmeal tee, brown pleated trousers, metallic platform sneakers.

My sizes: Jacket – Small, Tee – Small, Pants – 6 Petite
Budget-friendlier options: CARDIGAN | SNEAKERS

Yes, I’ve been wearing a lot of brown lately. 😉 It’s one of my best neutrals, and has always been one of my favorite colors to wear. I really like these Madewell pants, which are comfortable and easy to style. For those afraid that the pleats will add bulk, they really don’t, and they help the pants skim over my tummy area.

Why I recommend an in-person color analysis

Color analysis has really taken off in the last couple of years. I think it’s one of the best investments you can make in yourself and your wardrobe. While there’s been an explosion of people (and AI apps) offering online color services, I still believe that an in-person draping from a trained color analyst will deliver the best value for you. Here’s why:

  • when we compare different color drapes, my clients can SEE for themselves the effects of different colors on their skin.
  • the analysis will be more personalized; rather than just assigning a season, we drill down to find each person’s unique WOW colors within the seasonal palette.
  • we look at makeup as well as clothing, and clients can try different colors
  • I’m available for follow-up questions, and can help with shopping, style, and other related services.

If you live near or will be visiting the Los Angeles area, you can find out more and book your color analysis session HERE. (Know someone who’s struggling with their wardrobe? You can gift a personal color analysis. Just email me at info @ unefemme.net to arrange.) If a visit to Los Angeles isn’t accessible, you can find color analysts (who use a similar color system) near you HERE.

Hurricane relief and recovery: how to help

Finally, my heart goes out to those who have been affected by the recent hurricanes and floods. The devastation is just staggering. (And it truly chaps my hide that people are intentionally spreading disinformation that can interfere with people getting the help and resources they need. 😡) There are many great organizations you can donate to who are on the ground and providing aid. I’m a big fan of Jose Andres and his World Central Kitchen, often one of the first to arrive in disaster and war zones to feed those affected.

I’ve been seeing a lot of appeals from various groups for donations. If you’re unsure about an organization, you can see if they’re listed on Charity Navigator, or find reputable organizations to donate to.

  1. Hi Susan,
I am a summer/winter and have a pair of brown cords that I love but struggle to find a sweater to go with them. I think a lavender or pink looks okay. Anything else? Wish I wasn’t on the other side of the country from you.
    Thanks, Nancy

      1. Thanks for this article…appreciate your suggestions and ideas. You have me thinking how I can an accessorize (scarf, etc) to help with that brown or olive jacket and leopard print top I have so I look and feel better about something I have in the closet. I wish I lived closer to visit you for a color analysis (I’m on the east coast). I’ve made purchases that I probably shouldn’t have…….and it’s hard to clean/purge mistakes sometimes.

  2. I wish I lived in southern CA and could visit you for a color analysis — it just seems fun. There’s no way an online color analysis can be as good as in in-person one — for the reasons you state, plus this one: Just look at the variation in color on clothing items we order, only to find the online catalogue, our computers, our phones, and even the time of day and which lightbulbs we use affect what we see.

  3. Susan, thank you for mentioning disaster relief! It’s hard to think about buying a cashmere sweater, for example, when you know what that money could do to help people. World Kitchen is a great organization.

  4. This outfit, with the leopard jacket and brown pants, is so cute on you! Perfect for fall. I live in the Netherlands, but I’m in Carmel right now. I picked up a bunch of clothes for fall/winter and I can’t wait to get back home to wear them! It’s still too warm here in Northern California.

    1. Thanks so much, Jill! Yes, Northern California has been experiencing an unusual heat wave. Carmel is one of my favorite places to visit!
