Two Casual Weekend Capsules for Late Summer Into Fall
I know there are people out there who wish summer would never end. I’ve never been one of those people. 😉 Sure, I like the longer days, and fresh summer produce. I’m just not a fan of the heat, or most summer fashion. But I do love fall; I always feel more focused and productive, and usually have some planned travel to look forward to. And the return of layering weather puts me back in my style element.
By the end of August, I’m ready to shift my mindset and style vibe into fall. But with several weeks of warmer weather yet ahead, it’s not like I can break out the sweaters and jackets right after Labor Day. So I ease in by adjusting around the edges: swapping out my summer-coded accessories for more fall-appropriate materials and colors.
With that in mind, I’ve put together casual weekend capsules for late summer into early fall, in both warm and cool palettes. These capsules could work for a casual weekend getaway or a social staycation. Or they could be a starting point to pack for a longer trip. Let’s start with warm.
The Warm Palette Capsule

I’ve included shirts that can be worn on their own, layered over the tee or underneath the lightweight linen-blend cardigan. Pants include the lightweight Miramar jeans I’ve been wearing on repeat this summer, and a lighter pair. (You could also replace either pair of pants with a skirt if that’s more your style.) Here’s the same idea, in cool palette colors.

A Note on Denim as a Neutral
Yes, I used the same denim pieces in both sets. It’s my contention that most mid- to dark-wash denim is a neutral that pairs well with either warm or cool colors. (Not sure which color palette best suits you? Come see me for a Personal Color Analysis.)

Fall weather arrived this week. We had to turn the heat up because it was cold. I’m still wearing sandals and not quite ready for sweaters yet. Warm days will return. Thank you and enjoy your break, Susan.

Hi Nan, stone and neutral jeans can be worn year-round. I generally reserve linen for spring and summer (here, that can mean through September). At this time I’m not offering virtual color analysis, but my friend Rachel at Red Leopard might be able to help.
