Leçon, comment plier un foulard
It looks as though it’s going to take some trial and error to get the hang of this tripod-and-timer self portraiture. We’re still in the early stages; hopefully the results will improve with practice.
This is a super-simple, easy-peasy scarf tie, but one that looks nice and stays in place.
Start with a long scarf, drape around the neck with one short and one long end.
Wrap the long end once around the neck.
Take the long end and pass it downward through the loop.
Et voilà!
If you don’t want the ends quite so long, start with the short end even shorter, wrap twice around the neck, and tuck the long end through one of the loops.
Edited to add: I took some tuxedo shots last night, but need to fiddle with the exposure as they came out rather dark. I’ll post tomorrow.

M – Yes, my tuxedo included a jacket, but actually this isn’t the tuxedo shot. I took some tuxedo pics last night after I got home from work, but they turned out very dark, so I need to tweak with them a bit, and will post tomorrow. And yes, discrimination of this kind is appalling and an affront to human dignity.
Excellent step by step tips – and I like the way you tuck the long end through (final step). The tripod seems to be working just fine.
I was in London last Spring when it was still quite chilly. Every woman was wearing a scarf. I had just purchased one but had no idea how to wear the thing. I kept staring at women trying to figure it out. I fel like such a clueless pervert.
Thank you!
Great work with the tripod. Hopefully next we are going to have how-to videos!
Such a nice balance of polished and casual — and I love this scarf! I’d say you’re already doing well with the tripod — it will be great to see more of you.
Great job — the steps are nice and clear.
Nice work with the tripod! Does this tux ensemble include a jacket? I was thinking last night what a shame this young woman is being treated this way. Reminds me of an incident just last year where 60 African-American young people were turned away from a swim club in Philadelphia because they would “change the atmosphere” there.
Hah! I’ve never fed an end through the loop with this tie. Makes everything so much neater.

Uups. Spelling mistakes again.. What I meant to say was, that I have actually worn my ( shorter ) scarf like that, without knowing that it is a knot. Naturally your´s is more showy!
Thank you – good tripod work, and it just so happened that I am even at this moment wearing a nice long scarf that I bought today because I fell in love with the color. When I checked your blog, as I so often do, I immediately took it off and followed your directions, and am very happy with the result. Merci beaucoups.
I just got a tripod this week! I’m kind of scared (or too lazy?) to start using it.
Brilliant tutorial. That colour scarf looks so great on you. So soft and pretty.
