Ann Taylor Jacket Report

The Ann Taylor jackets I’d posted about here arrived Monday.

This jacket is the one I’d had high hopes for. The detailing is nice, it’s cute and seems to be well made, but the color was wrong for me, and felt overwhelming. Someone with dark hair and a cooler complexion than mine could rock this, but it’s is on its way back to the AT Mothership.

On the other hand, this jacket was actually much better than it looks online. The color, rather than being black and white as it appears in the pictures, is a grey, brown, blue, ivory and black tweed. Very nice, and it coordinates with just about every pair of pants I own. The zipper is very unobtrusive when worn open. The fit is quite good, especially in the armholes, which are cut more narrowly than I’ve seen in a few years.

So here’s une femme’s Chanel-esque debut:

Stay tuned for vintage Davidow jackets, purchased from Couture Allure Vintage Fashion and ebay…

  1. Interesting about the color of the jacket, the second one looks fabulous on you. I too would have thought it was more black/white from the photo.

  2. A jacket that works with everything is stylish and fits YOU is a treasure! Looks wonderful. I second CAVF’s applause for the chains and pearls too.

re mail order, my ratio is about 2 out of 3 things that work but it took awhile to learn. But I don’t mind the cost, I’d trade it against driving, parking and trudging any day.

  3. Mardel – thanks! I gripe often and loud that many e-tailers don’t know how to show their products to best advantage…this is another example.

metscan – this jacket doesn’t have a matching skirt, but it coordinates well with almost everything else I own.

  4. LBR – Thanks!

Couture Allure – thanks! I’m a great believer that “the only thing that separates us from the lower animals is our ability to accessorize.” (Clairee Belcher from Steel Magnolias)

  5. Duchesse – thanks! I probably return more than I keep, but even above the convenience factor is availability…often Petites departments are non-existant or sparingly stocked, so I have to order to get what I want.

Miss Janey – you are too kind, thanks!

  6. Kalee – thanks!

Karen – actually I tend to order two sizes if I’m not sure how something’s going to fit, and return one. I also order mostly brands I’m familiar with (quality, cut, fit). The brands that earn my loyalty are those that are consistent in these areas.

  7. Well,a good thing you got to examine both in person. I´m liking the one you kept too. Do you know if they have a skirt for it? Anyways, you can pick any of the colors on the jacket and match a skirt with it, if you wish. Btw, back goes my purchases from Browns,London too. I ordered a buttoned long sleeved T-shirt,size M, only to find it enormous, something like XXXL and an expensive Italian belt, that came in such a small size that only could fit a baby. The beautiful silk flower on it dropped on the floor. Grr…

  8. The second one is really great. I like the colour much better. Great find and it looks lovely on you.

  9. This jacket looks lovely on you! I like the way you’ve added the pearls and chains, à la Chanel. And the animal print shoes are just right.

  10. Wow! You can just order online like that and stuff fits you? Amazing. I must try everything on first. That jacket is so good with the tee underneath…Keeps it not too serious. Looks cute with those shoes, but on hotter days you can do a sandal with it, heeled or not.

  11. Hurrah! You look superb, and I love the addition of the pile of chains. Can’t wait to see what you nabbed from Jody’s shop!

  12. Wendyb – thanks!

Sal – thanks. The jacket from Couture Allure Vintage arrived today. I’ll take a pic tomorrow and have it up by weekend.

materfamilias – thanks, you are too kind!

  13. That jacket looks just wonderful on you. A high, narrow armhole was something that Chanel insisted upon–a detail that makes all the difference for petite women. Without trim shoulders, we can look like we’re wearing some larger person’s clothes.

Can’t wait to hear about the Davidows–I’ve been hunting for them in thrift shops for years without ever finding one!
