Be safe, get vaccinated!

My friend Tara had this posted on her Facebook page last week, and I had to share with you.  Whether you love Uggs or hate them, you have to admit this is a pretty clever send-up of the HPV vaccine ads.

(I’m in the “I-don’t-get-it” camp when it comes to Uggs. Especially when I see them worn with sundresses in 90F weather.)

Edited to add:  It was never my intention to make anyone feel defensive about their footwear.  If you like Uggs, and they work for your life, then go for it, and wear with pride.  Next I’ll try to find a video poking fun at crippling 5″ heels!

  1. I love my Uggs and will never part with them, they were super trendy about 7 years ago but now even the trendsters have given up on them. I’m still going to wear mine, as they are so warm and one of the few boots that I can tramp about in all day without getting
sore feet. Please don’t all ostracise me!

  3. Hah! I’m about to buy Uggs for the first time, as I’m tired of having freezing feet all winter long here in my home office….I promise they’re for said office only, no trips to the bank or grocery store.

  4. I love sheepskin boots–bliss for my feet. My students always compliment me. i wear leggings too–another no-no for the over 50.

Thought your post was going to be on flu shots–got mine today.

  5. J’adore my Uggs. And I resisted for so long purely on an aesthetic basis but then made the fatal error of actually trying a pair on. Oh, the bliss….the warmth….the comfort. I even bought a pair of Uggs slippers and they are lovingly packed away in my closet awaiting the first frosty morning…seriously, girls, just try them and you will understand.

  6. That is so great…love the last line.

I have a pair of elephant feet boots that a friend gave me (hand-me-down). I only wear them around the house in winter and while camping…I promise! About five years ago, I bought a pair of brown Ugg clogs while vacationing in Wyoming (I buy the most absurd things whilst traveling). I wore them exactly one time and to consignment they went.

  7. That’s hilarious! I’ve always thought “ugg” stood for ugly. I can’t even imagine ever owning a pair as they seriously are the most unattractive shoes I’ve ever seen. Almost.

  8. Very amusing. However I do confess to owning an old black pr that I wear when it is very cold in the winter.

  9. Funny! I say no to elephant feet, at least for my feet :-).

Thank you for your comment on my blog, especially given your hectic week. I love hearing about your style history and was curious whether you’ve written about it, so I was poking around here and found your “Waxing Philosophical” tag and read that amazing post from last August about Style. What an incredible post, and such interesting comments. I also discovered some new bloggers I’ll be following now.

It seems we have some similar themes and tapes looping when it comes to family history.

  10. Uggs, ugh. But seriously, I could have use for them here at home, as the floors are so cold during the winter months!

  11. I could love Uggs at home on a cold, winter day….but, even though I haven’t much style, probably wouldn’t wear them anywhere else. It doesn’t get very cold here in Savannah!

  12. I have some gray Uggs. Probably true elephant foot. But, when it is minus 10 and the snow is blowing they are wonderfully warm. I have worn them to the grocery store, but generally only around the house.

  13. Uggs like leggings are two of the most abused and misused clothing items. If kept and worn only for their intended purpose, they can be fantastic. But I have seen too many horrors to consent to owning a pair of Uggs.
And Imogen id right, they’re more like slippers not shoes!

  14. Good, I;m glad you will give equal ridicule to those stupid looking platform shoes with 5″ heels. Whilst shopping the other day, my daughter wondered out loud, “do these come with their own POLE?”

  15. The vaccine is too late for me, I bought my Uggs about 10 years ago, a year or so before they became the in thing to wear. I’ve put mine in the washing maching, and ordered replacement insoles. They’re great for a cold, snowy day. (I’ve never worn them in summer!)

That reminds me years ago, I wore high-heeled sandals to a new year’s eve event. That was fine going in, coming out we found about 18 inches of wet snow! That was the last time I wore dressy shoes in the winter, unless I checked the forecast.

  16. My son lives in Australia. He brought us Uggs for Xmas (we are in Miami) I got the house slippers because I would get the most use from them than bots. The younger generation got the boots. when it gets cold down here, and some Winters it does get cold, we love to wear them. Remember we have tiled floors and they get uber cold. so my slipper/booties come in super handy. I love them, and I want another pair this time in red for Xmas!! lol!

  17. Oh, dear. Have never wanted Uggs, so I think I’m already vacinated. However, Uggs is a rampant epidemic in my neighborhood, Topanga Canyon.

I am a little worried about the fact that I wear Crocs to walk the dog. They are comfy and since the county is tarring the road, I only want to screw up one pair of shoes.

Do you think it’s a gateway drug?

  18. I finally gave in but I did not buy the traditional pair-mine have a wedge heel and laces. They’re mostly for after working out or to and from yoga. I do know the type to wear them with mini-skirts, though. My favorite is the super short-shorts, tank top, and Uggs-when it’s 50F out. Since when is freezing (except your feet) stylish?

  19. haha! well, they’re certainly not attactive footwear, but…
i have 2 pairs of uggs: short classic boots (which i only wear around the house) and a pair of house slippers.
other than at home, i they’re ok for wintery walks, at a ski resort…or on surfers at a chilly beach. so yeah, they do have a few purposes. worn with a sundress in 90 degree heat isn’t one of them. 🙂
