Boutique Shopping

Chic in Paris
Top // Necklace // Jacket // Tote // Pants // Scarf

This post sponsored by Halsbrook. All opinions are my own.

One of the things I enjoy most about Paris is the shopping, bien sur. There are the grands magasins, but after a while I hit a sensory saturation point, and prefer to focus on smaller stores and boutiques, which each seem to have a cohesive aesthetic and point of view.

In a perfect world, we’d all have a local neighborhood boutique, a place where we can always find just the right thing for any occasion, without having to wade through racks of who-wears-this-stuff-anyway?-crazy or didn’t-I-just-see-this-at-the-last-four-stores? pieces.

Halsbrook is an online version of that boutique, offering a beautifully curated selection of chic, wearable clothing and accessories that you won’t find at every department store at the mall. In fact, the most difficult part of preparing this post was not clicking “add to cart” on almost every page! Simple and stylish, just about everything I saw would meet my “would I wear it in Paris” criteria. These are the kinds of pieces that can build solid and versatile wardrobe foundation, upon which you can add your own personal style touches.

The accessories and scarves are especially tempting, and do check out their ideas for styling pieces for some fabulous outfit inspiration.

  1. Today, I wandered through the Marais, along Rue St. Antoine and the wardrobe that you have, greys, black and blue works so well here. By the way, my lost suitcase was delivered by Air France last night at 10:30. The deliveryman even brought it up (5 flights for me.) I had laboured long with that wardrobe following you and Janice to coordinate the best travel wardrobe possible. The “would I wear it in Paris”
criteria is a good one. When do you come to Paris?

  2. My Monsieur and I are going on a Rhine River cruise in mid June. Any advice on how to adapt the Paris wardrobe for this trip, particularly what the temperature should be? Zurich to Amsterdam.

    1. Christine, I can’t advise on temperatures (heck, even Paris fluctuates wildly) but I find that lightweight layers that you can pile on or remove generally do the job. Check back Wednesday as I’ll have a post with suggestions for warmer weather travel clothing.

      1. I’ll look forward to your next blog. I’ve given your book to friends as gifts – we ‘re hooked! I’ve also ordered the Arche Exor sandal as a staple for my trip. Merci!

  3. Too bad that this blog is now a product of your sponsors not your opinions. Much better when there wasn’t $$$ involved. Why?

  4. Maybe I’m out of my financial league with the other ladies here but do we really need to spend $730 for a cotton blend short sleeve top?

  5. No, of course you don’t have to spend $$$ on clothes. But by being exposed to things beyond LL Bean, you might notice a design element or a detail that you like and can find that “look” at a lower price point. Just because I wouldn’t spend $$$ on a tee doesn’t mean others can’t/won’t/shouldn’t.

      1. Thanks! I don’t know what it is about them. Something like they are so uncool they are so very, very cooool. And they look very comfortable

        1. Fiona, I wore a very similar Arche sandal throughout a trip to Northern Europe 20 summers ago. Its purchase price was about 1/5 of the current price of the Arche Drick. I walked everywhere during that long trip, and my Arche sandals were the most comfortable (and, I was repeatedly told, cool) footwear for travel I’ve ever had.

  6. I keep looking for a similar jacket to the one featured but with a straight hem. I love the blue and no- belt style. Have you seen anything similar elsewhere?

  7. Hello Tish – I bought your book and love it. It is certainly my “ready reconer” for smart purchases in Paris, especially for beauty products. Actually I live in Paris, but still need direction and secret addresses. Congratulations.

PS………..Actually we met some time ago and you gave me your personal Email address, I wrote to you recently and wondered if you received it ? Would love to meet up again. A

    1. Hi Anne, actually I’m not Tish. You can find her wonderful blog at afemmeduncertainage.blogspot.com.
