Burberry Brit Jacket “Maidleigh”

As you may have noticed from my travel outfits so far, my lightweight, water-resistant utility-style jacket has been worn almost non-stop on this trip. While the one I have is no longer available, this lightweight “Maidleigh” hooded jacket from Burberry Brit has a similar look and is now on sale at Nordstrom.

  1. I have a Burberry Golf Goretex pullovrr I wear 10 months a year; great versatility and I’ve even unzipped collar to wear with OCBD and tie in biz settings.

  2. Unfortunately, this jacket only goes through size 10—and Nordstrom says that it runs small and you should size up one size.

    1. It is so frustrating to see beautiful designer pieces that aren’t made in larger sizes – and I love Burberry coat designs. FYI- while definitely not Burberry, Target is selling a nearly identical light weight anorak in all sizes up thru XXL (~$39). I bought one in the pale gray for some rainy day beach activities and am amazed at the design, fit, fabric & hardware (nothing tacky or cheap-looking). It traveled well rolled up, no wrinkles, took up very little space in my bag. Lots of compliments.

  3. Susan, I discovered your fabulous blog a few weeks ago and have been studying your posts. I want to be you! I want to walk in my closet, love everything I have, and have everything coordinate. It’s a goal I’m working towards, but right now it feels elusive. I have so many things I don’t wear for one reason or another: improper fit, I bought it because it was on sale and I don’t really love it, it wasn’t my style, etc. I’m also planning carry-on only (for the first time) for a month-long trip to Europe in September.

My basic colors are black, darker shades of blue, cream, brown, though I don’t bring brown when I travel. Question regarding the color of a “travel workhorse utility jacket”: Do you think it’s too much to go with a black one? Or navy? Or is it better to have a bit of contrast? (The other day you linked to a lovely Michael Kors jacket that comes in taupe.)

  4. I don’t even consider a size 12 to be a larger size! Especially when it is suggested that you size up from your regular size!!!

  5. Aha! I did my own search and found what I think is the same jacket at Nordtrom in larger sizes (up to a size 14–which would work for someone who wears a 12). It also comes in black!

  6. I think this jacket is very cute, but honestly I don’t understand how anyone can justify spending $450 (on sale!) for a casual rain jacket! That just seems totally out of bounds, IMO.

  7. I have a similar jacket to this from Macy’s Style & Co. It’s very comfortable & folds up small. Here is the link–it comes in black (and Large and XL!) http://www1.macys.com/shop/product/style-co.-sport-zip-pocket-hooded-anorak?ID=2057413&pla_country=US&CAGPSPN=pla&CAWELAID=120156340001865404&catargetid=120156340000918071&cadevice=t&cm_mmc=Google_Womens_PLA-_-Womens_General_Womens+-+GS_Style%26co.-_-66679068061_-_-_mkwid_9ZawvYnm%7Cdt_66679068061%7C-%7C9ZawvYnm
If the link doesn’t work, it is Style&Co. Sport Zip-pocket Hooded Anorak.

  8. That looks lovely, Karen. I know we have “Style&Co.” here (in Canada). The black is truly classic, but I love that red!

The sleeves seem to be three-quarters, but they’d probably be normal length on me.

  9. I have the very same jacket! I bought it from Nordstrom’s on sale a few years ago. It was made by Sando, and looks very chic.
