Casual Date Night
Usually “date night” means dinner out with le monsieur at one of our local eateries, mostly casual venues. I like to dial up the girly just a notch, but not to where I look like I’m trying too hard (a misdemeanor offense in LA). I had the opportunity to review another top from Covered Perfectly, and I knew I wanted to try this one. The gathers on this “Mandy” top make it a bit more feminine than just another tee, and the v-neck is low enough to be flattering, but not so low that I felt too exposed. The fabric is super soft, so it drapes nicely and feels wonderful on.
It’s also lightweight enough to layer easily under a jacket.
The Mandy top is available in several colors and in plus sizes too.
You can see all of the Covered Perfectly styles here. Remember to use code UF20 at checkout for a 20% discount!
Top: Covered Perfectly, provided for review // Jacket: Michael Kors // Jeans: Eileen Fisher, similar // Boots: from 2008, very similar // Necklace: J.Crew, no longer available, similar // Bracelets: Stella and Dot here and here.
What do you like to wear for date night?

Beautiful outfit. Stylish and smart. I love how the material gathers at the bust to create shape to the whole ensemble. And your shoes work perfectly with it. Good job!
You look chic and beautiful! Inspiring really…..

Simply stylish – that’s the way I try to look, and you always achieve it with your outfits. I love the way you put everything together and would love to shop your wardrobe! Last night we went out with a couple of friends for wine and tapas. I wore charcoal trousers with grey low-heeled booties, a raspberry coloured top with a silver link necklace and a silvery grey cascade cardigan. I also wore a winter coat and bright scarf as it was very wintry outside.
You look lovely…perfect for a date night. I love looks like this…and the necklace is very pretty.
I don’t think you could ‘look like you tried too hard’ if you tried! Love how that necklace sparks the whole outfit.
You and your skinny jeans revolutionized my “go to” look. I am your age, and of similar shape. I thought skinny jeans were not for me, given those things. But seeing how great you look in them made me at least try some on….et voila! Bought ’em and wear ’em constantly!
Thanks for all the inspiration. It is great to see a “not trying too hard” version of a date night outfit. That is my mindset all the time, too. But I’m liable to end up on the frumpy side if I don’t watch out. You’re helping me stay on the right side of the line! 😉
LOL at “a misdemeanor offense in LA”! Here in Central Florida, I’d be considered “all gussied up” if I wore a denim skirt instead of jeans : > I love this chic outfit, and the sparkly necklace makes it really memorable.
That is a nice top. Their stuff is made of modal? and is washable?
Hi Lisa, it’s micro-modal and a little spandex. Washes beautifully and line dries overnight (so good for travel).
You look very pretty.
We don’t really have date night, no kids, so it’s always just us!
No kids doesn’t mean that it isn’t nice to dress up a bit and go out on a ‘date’. This post reminds me that I should really get back to making the effort to do that sort of thing with my husband…
Love this look on you. My date night looks usually involves jeans, high-heeled ankle boots, a fun blouse, a glittery necklace and a clutch (I’m especially loving my leopard clutch right now). I’m still loving your J. Crew necklace, and glad you showed it on your blog last year because it led me to find the one I ended up buying from them. Great post. XO, Jill
The Fashion Police should have recruited you by now….no way you would ever get a citation! Great look and the necklace really kicks it up a notch.
Fabulous shirt! I love everything draped and wrapped and this has such a nice cleavage.
Oh and your necklace is beautiful!

You look fabulous, I really love the beautiful top. I live in England, is it possible to buy them here ?.do hope so .Love your blog it’s so informative , thank you.
I just ordered the top in black, which is just the color I needed, uh, wanted. This cut is so perfect for me. And the 3/4 sleeve is my summer sleeve now too. Thanks!
Very lovely and the booties steal the show! Your hair looks great!

Great top – casual, flattering, comfy, and still looks chic. Every night should be date night!
That’s the style I like
I’ve been reading and enjoying your blog for a year now. I’ve just started my own blog (gulp) and have included “Une femme” in my list of Top 10 Blogs I Love. Hope this is okay.

Hi Sue, just popped over to your blog. Wow, what adventures you’ve had! I look forward to reading about your next life phase, and more travel and adventure.
I love that necklace. It’s amazingly versatile and probably works with everything! Hope you will link this up to this week’s Fashionista Style Hop: http://stillblondeafteralltheseyears.com/2014/01/golden-globe-fashion-stars-45-fashionista-style-hop/ We are covering the Golden Globes over there.
You look beautiful…classy and hot all at once!

Love the cuffed jeans with the booties!
Fabulous. The necklace is a stunner! Reminds me of Tom Binns’ designs. For going out evenings, unless I’ve been working, I don’t tend to change outfits or looks – although I might add more eyeliner/eyeshadow.
I think you dialed up the “girly” just right. You look great in all these pieces, and I’m a huge fan of so-called shooties. Usually a night out for me means attending one of my husband’s shows, which can range from an intimate jazz club to an amphitheater. I’m almost always in something long and flowy with the fabrics determining how dressy or casual, and boots. In the summer I’ll switch out to a pair of heeled sandals.
You always look modern and soooooooooooo chic.
Perfect layering, and I want, want those boots, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Love Sunday, my friend

I think ankle booties are staple for winter.. this time around I see them more than the high cut boots. You look stunning and Mr is one lucky guy 🙂

Hi there
You look fantastic, I might try the skinny jeans now as well ! Also if you don’t mind me asking, what size are you wearing in the black top. I am in Australia and get confused with converting our sizing to US sizes.
Regards,
Anne
Hi Anne,
I’m wearing the size Small. If you have any questions about sizing, Pauline will answer questions via email.
I’d like to ask you if you are french or speak french? I’m curious. I’m from Montreal, Quebec in Canada. And I’m one of the 2% french speaking north americans.
By the way, I love your page and fashion.
Hi Merelle, thank you! I did take several years of French in high school and college. I’m a bit rusty, but can remember enough when we visit France to ask basic questions and (usually) understand the answers.
