Casual Date Night

Usually “date night” means dinner out with le monsieur at one of our local eateries, mostly casual venues. I like to dial up the girly just a notch, but not to where I look like I’m trying too hard (a misdemeanor offense in LA). I had the opportunity to review another top from Covered Perfectly, and I knew I wanted to try this one. The gathers on this “Mandy” top make it a bit more feminine than just another tee, and the v-neck is low enough to be flattering, but not so low that I felt too exposed. The fabric is super soft, so it drapes nicely and feels wonderful on.

skinny jeans, ankle boots

It’s also lightweight enough to layer easily under a jacket.

The Mandy top is available in several colors and in plus sizes too.

You can see all of the Covered Perfectly styles here. Remember to use code UF20 at checkout for a 20% discount!

What do you like to wear for date night?

  1. Beautiful outfit. Stylish and smart. I love how the material gathers at the bust to create shape to the whole ensemble. And your shoes work perfectly with it. Good job!

  2. Simply stylish – that’s the way I try to look, and you always achieve it with your outfits. I love the way you put everything together and would love to shop your wardrobe! Last night we went out with a couple of friends for wine and tapas. I wore charcoal trousers with grey low-heeled booties, a raspberry coloured top with a silver link necklace and a silvery grey cascade cardigan. I also wore a winter coat and bright scarf as it was very wintry outside.

  3. I don’t think you could ‘look like you tried too hard’ if you tried! Love how that necklace sparks the whole outfit.

  4. You and your skinny jeans revolutionized my “go to” look. I am your age, and of similar shape. I thought skinny jeans were not for me, given those things. But seeing how great you look in them made me at least try some on….et voila! Bought ’em and wear ’em constantly!

Thanks for all the inspiration. It is great to see a “not trying too hard” version of a date night outfit. That is my mindset all the time, too. But I’m liable to end up on the frumpy side if I don’t watch out. You’re helping me stay on the right side of the line! 😉

  5. LOL at “a misdemeanor offense in LA”! Here in Central Florida, I’d be considered “all gussied up” if I wore a denim skirt instead of jeans : > I love this chic outfit, and the sparkly necklace makes it really memorable.

    1. Hi Lisa, it’s micro-modal and a little spandex. Washes beautifully and line dries overnight (so good for travel).

    1. No kids doesn’t mean that it isn’t nice to dress up a bit and go out on a ‘date’. This post reminds me that I should really get back to making the effort to do that sort of thing with my husband…

  6. Love this look on you. My date night looks usually involves jeans, high-heeled ankle boots, a fun blouse, a glittery necklace and a clutch (I’m especially loving my leopard clutch right now). I’m still loving your J. Crew necklace, and glad you showed it on your blog last year because it led me to find the one I ended up buying from them. Great post. XO, Jill

  7. The Fashion Police should have recruited you by now….no way you would ever get a citation! Great look and the necklace really kicks it up a notch.

  8. You look fabulous, I really love the beautiful top. I live in England, is it possible to buy them here ?.do hope so .Love your blog it’s so informative , thank you.

    1. Hi Sue, just popped over to your blog. Wow, what adventures you’ve had! I look forward to reading about your next life phase, and more travel and adventure.

  9. Fabulous. The necklace is a stunner! Reminds me of Tom Binns’ designs. For going out evenings, unless I’ve been working, I don’t tend to change outfits or looks – although I might add more eyeliner/eyeshadow.

  10. I think you dialed up the “girly” just right. You look great in all these pieces, and I’m a huge fan of so-called shooties. Usually a night out for me means attending one of my husband’s shows, which can range from an intimate jazz club to an amphitheater. I’m almost always in something long and flowy with the fabrics determining how dressy or casual, and boots. In the summer I’ll switch out to a pair of heeled sandals.

  11. Hi there
You look fantastic, I might try the skinny jeans now as well ! Also if you don’t mind me asking, what size are you wearing in the black top. I am in Australia and get confused with converting our sizing to US sizes.
    Regards,
    Anne

    1. Hi Anne,

I’m wearing the size Small. If you have any questions about sizing, Pauline will answer questions via email.

  12. I’d like to ask you if you are french or speak french? I’m curious. I’m from Montreal, Quebec in Canada. And I’m one of the 2% french speaking north americans.

By the way, I love your page and fashion.

    1. Hi Merelle, thank you! I did take several years of French in high school and college. I’m a bit rusty, but can remember enough when we visit France to ask basic questions and (usually) understand the answers.
