Caveats

First, I must commemorate for posterity probably the best blowout I’ve ever had (hmm, that sounds a bit risqué). I feel bad because I was on my lunch hour and getting impatient with the stylist for taking so long to dry my hair after she took so long to cut it, but this is easily the best my hair has looked since I can’t remember when. Yes, I tipped her well.

And yes, the color is lighter. I loved the red, but was tired of the maintenance required to keep it looking good. And this color is growing on me.

So, the shopping moratorium… did I mention there are a few exceptions?

One: les bijoux. I already have a couple of pieces in the works with Wendy B, one of which is almost complete…I’m twitching with excitement! I may have something to show you by next week.

Two: a summer weight jacket, preferably knit. This does not duplicate anything currently in my wardrobe, and is something I’ve been hunting for since last summer. Should the right one cross my path, I cannot be held responsible for what might happen.

Three: white tees. After I posted last week, I realized my white Banana Republic tees had yellowed beyond the point that I want to wear them. And I’d rather have some v-necks if I can find.

Yes, I’m equivocating already. I’ll try to hold the line here.

  1. Wow, what a lush, shiny, lively colour, looks spectacular on you! New white tees arent ‘real purchases’- like replacing lightbulbs. You can’t wear yellowed white tees.

  2. While I prefer the red I really like the brightness of this color and how it lights up your face. I like the fullness of the blowout and agree she did a good job!

Ah, the elusive summer weight jacket/wrap/cardigan. When you find it, let me know! I prefer mine a bit long 32-33 inches or more, so that makes it even harder to find. My preference, since it’s summer months we’re talking about, are lighter colors as well. I don’t need any more black cardigans, really I don’t:)

I would rather not be wearing a shaker knit at the same time I’m wearing sandals, but then again I live in the Bay Area where fog is common.

Good luck on the shopping moratorium, I’m spending money for tailoring on things I already have and am trying to be conservative about spending because I don’t know (but I hope) I will lose more weight and I don’t know what my size will settle at. It’s very very hard, especially when spring lines/clothes are blooming ever so temptingly in store windows and on the Internet…

  3. Except for gardening, housework, etc. Duchesse. But I have far too many “gardening and housework” tees (greying black, not yellowing white, as I don’t wear white). Have to go through them and turn some into soft cleaning rags. Part of spring cleaning!

Like replacing lightbulbs or to take an example that would cost more the same as a decent t-shirt, like having shoes repaired.

pseu, is that closer to your original hair colour, it looks like the young-girl pics of you. There is no colour that I can maintain without some upkeep as my hair was very dark and has quite a bit of grey now, but not an attractive salt and pepper. Think the dark red is easier on us greying brunes.

  4. Your hair colour is very soft and natural looking and I love how it lights up your face. The style is great too.

White tees usually only last me one season and v necks are great for showcasing the bijou!
Wendy B…let’s see when you have the finished piece.

  5. That colour (and cut) looks great on you. As for the risqué, there are now several salons in Vancouver (same owner) with the clever idea of just doing blow-outs, with the even cleverer, cheeky, attention-getting name Blo!

  6. What can one say?

Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous. And, young, young, young. Cool, cool, cool.

    Thanks for sharing ma chere.

P.S.: I’ve asked for new white tees for my birthday. How exciting is that? Oh yes, and books, but in my book it’s always all about facade . . .

  7. Another vote for the new look! Both colour and cut are very becoming, and your happy smile shows how pleased you are with it.

  8. Tres jolie! My coloring is similar to yours, and I’ve found that a lighter but still warm blonde is much more flattering than something darker.

(My verification word is “squele” — which is just what I did when I saw the new look!)

  9. Hi,

I follow but rarely comment. But today I can’t keep my mouth shut.

Your hair is fantastic! The color the cut. Beautiful.

Getting a good blowout these days is harder and harder. Stylist’s want to use the flatiron b/c it is easier. But you loose the fullness w/o that round brush.

  10. The hair cut and color look absolutely fantastic on you! Whomever did the work is a keeper. Good luck with the summer jacket purchase; this is always a tough item for me. I agree with Duchesse about the white tees. They do not count as a strike on your purchase moratorium. Enjoy!

  11. Very glamourous alone but glamourous + chic with the glasses! My texture means this look is not for me, but I do love it on others; it works so nicely with your face shape. And it’s SUCH a showcase for the shine!

I do like this new color on you because IMO it’s just enough this side of warm and contrast-y to set off your lovely skin.

[I admit I am partial to the PITA-to-maintain red — and think a medium reddish brown with caramel ‘lights would look pretty with your coloring too. Not sure if you’ve gone there in the past….]

  12. Absolutely lovely. A good hair stylist is worth their weight in gold. I recently found one too so know how delighted you must be feeling.

  13. I love this picture of you. Such a joyous expression. You should crop out the camera and put it in a frame. It’s that kind of good!

  14. I think I prefer the lighter hair on you, actually. Looks great! I also like the contrast of the darker frames of your specs.

  15. Your hair looks excellent here-that re must’ve been a superior blow dry (which is what we call a Blow out in Australia). You look a bit Anna Wintourish. Well Played.

  16. This hair is definitely younger on you! I love it. My new favorite tee is by TRESICS. Get them online or at TJ MAXX. They can be as low as $5.99 and are great quality, have great necklines, and can be tossed at the slightest stain.

  17. Check Chicos for the white Tees… and what I love the most about your new do? You look so happy!! I don’t know if it is actually the hair or how you feel about your hair. But something there suits you!

  18. I like the high lights in the front. How often do you have to have your hair trimmed and how often do you wash it?

  19. Wow, you all are too kind! Thanks so much! Of course, I haven’t been able to duplicate these results at home, so am glad I took the picture.

lagatta – yes, it is closer to my natural hair color, which is a dark ashy blonde (the bits that aren’t yellowish-grey). This color is warmer and brighter than my natural color, which I’ve frequently described as the color of wet cardboard.

Metscan – now that I have bangs, I need to get it trimmed every 4 weeks or so. I wash every 2-3 days.

Frugal Scholar – the Hanes mens tees might be fine on someone with a more willowy figure, but on me they’re snug across the bust and hips, and baggy in the waist. All wrong.

  20. spacegeek – yes, I’m ready to give the Chico’s elbow-sleeve tees another go. Just not feeling those cap sleeves everyone else is offering.

Thanks again everyone for your very sweet comments! If anyone in LA wants the name/number of the stylist (or my colorist, a different person) please e-mail me and I’ll be happy to share my good hair fortune with you.

  21. Can only echo–you do look great. Love Duchesse’s lightbulb comment.

I’m not really a white tee person, but I’m wondering what you think of the oft-mentioned Hanes men’s tees. They are always mentioned as a cheap chic item, but to me–or on me-=they look like cheap men’s teeshirts.

  22. That hair was worth the wait. The colour is fantastic and the blow dry is awesome. I so wish I could blow dry my hair like a professional.

  23. Love Love Love the hair. Why is it that the stylist can do this and I can’t replicate it at home no matter how I try? I so look forward to your blog everyday! I’m hoping one day that I can get out west and meet you and Belette!

  24. Your hair looks really great. If I read correctly, it was red before…? Mine’s in a pixie cut (which I love) and naturally dirty blond, but currently dyed red- which I also love, but- like you, I do not enjoy the upkeep! So…I’m keeping the cut but going back to blond…might get some highlights like yours.
Anyway, gorgeous hairstyle and color you have. 🙂
