Coco’s Continental Kit…

Poor baby had a cyst removed from her side, and was sent home from the vet in the Cone of Shame.  She was really freaked out wearing it, and a neighbor suggested we find one of these inflatable donut things.  A lifesaver!  It fastens to her collar and doesn’t seem to bother her at all, but prevents her from chewing on her stitches. The image kept reminding me of something, and I finally put my finger on it…
Pic from here.
Edited to add: Here’s the origin of “Cone of Shame”.

  1. Awww, poor Coco and her affronted dignity…but at least the cone sets off her gorgeous coloring! Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

  2. What a darling dog!

Plastic cones are so unweildy – this inflatable cushion is a brilliant idea!! none of my animals needs surgery right now, but if they do I hope I remember this. Thank you for the tip.

Now I wonder if they have cat sized ones? 😉

  3. We have recently got to know a King Charles Cavalier and are quite smitten by the breed’s qualities (the next door neighbour’s granddaughter has one — the girl’s name is Charlotte, the dog’s name is Lily, and she’s oblivious to SATC, so the combo is pure coincidence)
Hope Coco heals quickly and is back to normal soon. Meanwhile, I do like LBR’s suggestion . . . Friday’s foulard . . .

  4. I LOVE that film, and Doug the dog is the most brilliant canine creation since Gromit of Wallace and Gromit. Doug is the soul of Dogness. Dogtitude.Dogliness. Whatever….

I think the cushion is much more fashion forward, and more flattering to her petite figure, and brunette ears. It is also a good life preserver and thus suitable for cruisewear…

  5. Pauvre, pauvre puppy dog. She’s so beautiful, I’m sure no one will notice!

  6. I too find the name “cone of shame” so funny. I have never heard about the cushion. I hope that everything goes well, that the cushion stays on and fast heeling.

  7. I am so sorry to here about Coco’s surgery. Hope she is recovering well. Could you maybe put one of your Hermes scarfs around that donut? Coco is too chic for anything inflatable!;-)

  8. So smart! Much better than those clear plastic itchy cones. Hope your precious pup recovers quickly. She’s adorable.

  9. For dignity’s sake, we always referred to it as “The Elizabethan Collar”. Well, it was better than “Satellite Dish Head”…

Hope she is better very soon!

  10. Poor Jack spent a couple of weeks in the Cone of Shame when we got him.

I would imagine that the donut helps avoid the worst problem of the Cone, which is that when the dogs sniff at nasty things outdoors, they can scoop it up in the Cone – not good at all!
