Sweats, Elevated

An "elevated casual" stay-at-home look with Vuori joggers. Details at une femme d'un certain age.

The Case For Comfort…

I’ve never had much, if any, “loungewear” in my wardrobe, as I just didn’t see the point of investing in clothing that I wouldn’t wear outside of the house (sleepwear being the exception). That’s beginning to change, and not just because we’re currently spending a lot more time at home. “Comfortable stylish clothing” is no longer an oxymoron.

For one thing, the sustained athleisure trend has shifted the norms of what’s considered street wear. And brands have stepped up with some pieces that feel more refined, without losing any of the comfort or ease.

Take those Vuori jogger pants. I’ve read a few recommendations, and decided to try them. The fabric is lovely…soft but substantial. Elegant, even. (The ones I ordered in Medium following the sizing recommendation were too large, have a pair Small on order in the Indigo color.) Here’s a similar style in Plus.

You can also mix levels of refinement within an outfit. For example, you could style the joggers with a tee, casual blazer and espadrilles. Or wear the terry top with your favorite jeans and loafers for a more polished casual look.

Comfortable & Stylish Warm Weather Clothing…

Perhaps the weather’s already warming up where you live. I’ve been seeing a lot of nice options in linen and linen knits.

These striped linen track pants are really cute.

I just received these linen lantern pants, and can hardly wait for warmer weather to wear them! Available in Misses, Petite and Plus sizes. The fabric is light and drapey but opaque. They can be dressed up or down, depending on what you wear them with. And they have pockets!! (Also available in a cool beige shade.)

(If you wear Misses or Plus sizes, they’re currently marked down at Nordstrom, though some colors and size combos not available.)

How do you balance comfort and style in your outfits?

I’d also like to express my sincerest thanks for your kind comments on Saturday’s post. Your support is very much appreciated.

  1. Thank you for your daily posts – I look forward to them every day now in isolation. I also was sorry to hear about Coco. Pets become part of the family and the fabric of your life, so condolences. I wonder if you could comment on undergarments – bras, shapers etc. I have tried so many brands and types and find they are all sized differently and of varying quality. Your experience would be a help. Best Regards and stay strong, Susan M, Philadelphia

  2. In terms of underware, I’m most interested in bras for serious bosoms that do NOT require underwires. I do have some of those instuments of torture, but wear them only on some formal work occasions, and not without at least three ibuprofen. I do wear a bra daily, but not things that slice into me.

  3. There you go getting me in trouble again! Ordered the lantern pants & the track pant in the gorgeous cinnamon & rust. I also ordered the EF powder pink short sleeve linen blouse. While I love the style, I don’t think it’s a good color for me unless I wear a tank underneath in a deeper color so I am on the fence about that one. Love that you bring us all these great finds when we can’t be out shopping ourselves!
