Ready, Set…Fall!

fall accessory bundlesThis post is sponsored by Nordstrom. All opinions, ideas and words are my own.

I love the colors and textures available this time of year! Above, I’ve created a couple of accessory “bundles.” Either accessory color story could work with either bag shown.

Left: hat | scarf | gloves
Middle: top handle bag | crossbody bag
Right: hat | scarf | gloves

No kidding, I’m doing the Snoopy Happy Dance daily now that the weather has cooled down enough to bust out the scarves! I’m a bit color and pattern-averse when it comes to clothing, so scarves can be real power players in my wardrobe. I use them to:

  • Add color near the face
  • Provide an accent color and/or pattern for neutrals
  • Add variety
  • Tie together other colors in an outfit
  • Keep the neck warm! (I have some arthritis in my neck, and find wearing a scarf in cool temperatures helps prevent and reduce stiffness.)

Plaid and buffalo check prints seem to be “hot” for fall, and a scarf is one way to play with this trend without veering to sharply into Lumberjack or Grunge territory. If you’re into pattern mixing, wear your plaid or check scarf with stripes, animal print or floral print.

If prints aren’t your thing, or you’re looking for a solid scarf to wear with printed pieces, I really like the Nordstrom in-house branded scarves. The cashmere and silk blend is a lighter-weight option, and the tissue-weight wool and cashmere blend provides warmth without bulk. Both are great for travel.

Nordstrom has a fantastic selection of fall scarves and accessories in a wide range of brands and prices. They offer free shipping and returns and if you have questions, their customer service people are knowledgable and helpful.

What do you most look forward to wearing when cooler weather arrives?

I love being able to wear a jacket. And scarves, of course. A jacket can dress things up so easily, even just a jean jacket with a popped collar.

Ah fall. I have to remember to be careful what I wish for. I was in New York City last week with a girlfriend. Had all my packing planned… all coat sweaters etc etc… and then checked the weather. And found out it was supposed to be (and was actually) 28 degrees C when we were there. Now back in Ottawa it’s just barely above 0 with a brisk wind. Almost too cold for coat sweaters, even. Still now I can break out my new coat that I bought in New York… so … sliver lining:) I’ll be interested to see what you’ll take to Paris when you go.

Cool weather clothing offers options to increase my use of scarves and add more variety in the texture of the clothing I wear — flannels, tweeds, boucle, ponte and other knitwear items with fabric that can range from think to bulky (but not too bulky).

It is still 80’s in Texas but I have started looking at my scarves lately. Like you, I am not overly fond of wearing patterns or bold colors but I do like to wear pretty scarves.

I love those gloves in green. Such a beautiful color! I yearn for the cooler weather to come soon. Denver has beautiful…in the mid 70’s low 80’s but it just not Fall weather. I have so many beautiful scarves. Looking forward to breaking them out!

I too think Nordstrom scarves are a good buy and they usually have nice/current patterns. Mostly I look for silk or silk blends as the wool blend fabrics make me too warm. Which is unfortunate because I love all the fall colors and plaids!

I took all my plaid scarves out of hibernation. Yesterday it was a cozy blanket scarf. Today a plaid J. Crew number. This is my kind of weather! The gloves–I’m treating myself to a pair of red leather ones at J.B.Guanti on Rue de Rennes in a few weeks. And I completely agree with you–I’m not one for patterns either so the scarves really do brighten the winter looks! Nice post!

I love to browse the accessories section in Nordstrom, especially when it’s raining. It’s a soothing place to be. Their hats too are fun to try on. They always accommodate a very wide range of tastes and budgets. I like your picks.

I use scarves for pattern injection too. However, I do find that by the time I’m well into winter, I sort of become addicted to them and feel so bare and exposed without them, even indoors! So I have to keep an eye on my wearing time and force myself to go scarfless now and then.
