For My Tall Friends…

NYDJ Extra Long jeans
Two styles of NYDJ “Extra Long” jeans – 36″ inseam

Many of you mentioned in last week’s post about inconsistent clothing sizes that pants with long enough inseams are hard to find. I noticed that NYDJ offers several styles in Long and Extra Long, and have also researched some other online retailers that seem to offer a wide selection of items in Tall sizing. Granted, this isn’t my area of expertise 😉 but I hope it will be helpful.

  1. For those looking for tall clothing at a lower price, J. Jill carries a tall line that is fairly extensive. What do I like from J. Jill? I have purchased a short sleeve jersey dress that is a great transitional piece for Texas weather. Buying it in TALL means that it is long enough for me and has the right proportions.

I have also bought very casual long sleeved tunic-like knit tops to wear out at our farm. Also leggings.

My favorite J. Jill items is a black jersey open front jacket that is very plain and very versatile as a layering piece.

i wish that Eileen Fisher offered at least their pants in a Tall/long.

    1. Unfortunately for me, JJill seems to have bought into vanity sizing. I now wear an xs or sometimes xxs if it is available, and tall pants start at s.

  2. Talbot’s jeans and pants come in Tall (and though Talbot’s is not currently distinguishing itself, their jeans are terrific.) Many LL Bean jeans come in both Medium Tall and Tall. Boden make Long lengths in all pants and jeans. Levis and Lee both make Longs as do pricier brands like 7 for All Mankind.

Pseu, have been away from your blog all summer and just dropped by on a whim, to find this- am 5′ 10″, so the perfect day to visit.

  3. I am relatively tall at 5’8″, but my legs are short and I am long waisted. I wish manufacturers would take into account that a person’s height isn’t necessarily in her legs.

  4. Long Tall Sally in Canada and the US, too — both have their own websites. They’ve also become associated with Barefoot Tess, which specializes in shoes sized 10 – 15!

  5. For tall girls in Europe can I suggest Anna Montana Jeans – they come in different styles as we are made in different shapes & various lengths from 32″ to 34″ – some are available season round, others need to be ordered in advance. We sell them both in our shops & online here in the U.K. My favourites are the Angelika Magic Shape which are a skinny with super stretch that doesn’t bag at the knee in a 33″ leg and they retail at a great price too £59. Not sure if you can get them in the states but it is definitely worth investigating!

    1. Tall gals in Europe can find a lot of long trousers and jeans at all price levels in the Netherlands, where the average woman is about 5ft10!

Alas, I have short legs. Short, but take normal length in blouses and jackets.

  6. Long, Elegant Legs and Long Tall Sally are both good sources for tall jeans, leggings and trousers at moderate prices. NYDJ are very good quality, but I, too, wish Eileen Fisher had tall lengths. Lands End also has a few, but as with the other companies, styles, colors and fabrics are limited in longer lengths so It’s difficult to feel “fashion forward” “Tall” is not usually long enough for women 5’10” or more.

  7. White House/Black Market (in the U.S.) also sells their house brand of jeans in falls, but their regulars seem to have at least a 33″ inseam.

  8. I require a 33-34″ inseam and a non-curvy cut. Both 7 For All Mankind and Theory work for me. Also BCBG.

    1. Moi aussi! Hudson Jeans are great for me, I think their standard inseam is 34″ and they do a longer length called Supermodel for really long legged gals.
