Foulard de la semaine

In comments on yesterday’s post, some of you requested a tutorial on how to do the “scarf as necklace” tie. Fortunately, I happen to have one on hand.  😉

(Third one on the video.)

  1. Always enjoy the scarf tutorials. Can you suggest anything for an even smaller square, say 20″? I have several of these, and never do anything except the cowboy knot with them.

My other scarf problem is not something you can help with 😉 I am a middle aged woman living in a very warm climate. I have a pretty good sized scarf collection, included some lovely Hermes, but I’m kind of afraid to wear them because it’s nearly impossible not to perspire on them! Too much information, I know. Should I wear them anyway, and send them to the cleaners a lot? Move to a colder climate? Wish I were pre-menopausal? Sigh…

  2. Great tie for women who do not want a lot of scarf!

    Jill Ann:

If you’re sweating into your scarf you aren’t going to enjoy it much, even if you do get them cleaned.

You might wear your scarf as: a belt through loops in jeans or trench coat (ends tie in back), tied on handbag’s handles, wrapped cummerbund-style around waist. (I’ve also seen a triangular tie on waist but you need a smallish derriere or scarf “points” to it.) See Hermes’ web site for illustrations, including head bands/wraps which may also be too warm.

In very hot weather, I like Hermes’ cotton scarves, infinitely cooler, and leave the silk twills strictly on my bag.

  3. Merci for the tutorial. How I love to accessorize with a pretty scarf. You are très chic!!
Wishing you a lovely weekend ~
    xoxo, B

  4. What fun! Scarves – I don’t leave home without one…

(And for Jill Ann – I live in a warm climate and still wear scarves in the summer – more narrow and very sheer, and in less complex configurations. Solid color and open netting materials can work well. Et ça marche !)
