Foulard de la semaine

Our June Gloom seems to be surrendering to sunshine, so this may be my last chance to wear a large carré for a while. Until I can get my pictorial scarf tutorial going, I’ll let mes amis in on a little tip: if you double-knot your scarves, use a granny knot instead of a square knot. This helps impart more of that “just threw it on” look les Parisiennes seem to have mastered. A square knot will look more studied and “done.”

  1. I LOVE that colour combination and that is a fabulous cardigan. (Thanks to Michelle Obama for demonstrating that cardigans are cool.) Your experiments with colour are working out really well.

  2. May I just say it is a JOY to see you wearing such beautiful colors?
I mean that in the nicest, most complimentary way!

  3. Sheila – thanks! About a year ago I realized I wanted a softer look and started buying cardigans instead of jackets. They’re very versatile and stylish.

    Sue – thank you.

  4. Leah – thanks for the tip! I’ll try to swing by there tomorrow and actually try on. I’m so glad you like the bag!! I’m glad it’s getting some love.

Cindy – thanks! Now that I know what colors are in my palette, it’s easier to pick and combine.

  5. I wanted to let you know that the cardigan at BR you were looking at (small brown pattern on cream background) is on sale — just $10 off but if you use a Gap family card it’s an extra 10% off. They just have the pink color online but I know I saw a few of the brown at our store a few days ago.

I am loving the Monsac bag. I really wanted a structured bag and it will be perfect for interviews.

  6. That taupe and turquoise is such a lift on you, love it! My French GF Vicky worked at Hermes for years, and this was her usual knot… you are right, it’s more offhand than the tight square knot. Less is more.

I have been buying shawls instead of jackets; b/c I live in such a cold country- Ontario, Canada- we can wear a shawl over a light sweater, a blouse or even a jacket for extra warmth.
