Scarf rings can be a great way to get some different looks from your scarves, and to keep scarves in place.
The “chain d’ancre” ring is from Hermès, and is hand carved from horn. This is my most frequently used scarf ring. The horn material is very light, and unlike metal versions that sometimes tend to slide down from their own weight, this one stays put, even on smaller “vintage” sized scarves (27 in/70 cm square). And the neutral color seems to go with every scarf I own! Mai Tai is offering a version of the chain d’ancre in several colors and sizes, and for less than the Hermès version. The other simple gold scarf ring is a one I purchased at least two decades ago. (Can’t believe I still have it!) I often get asked if it’s Gucci (horse bit design) but no. But you don’t need a special scarf ring; any large sized band ring will work, as long as there are no rough edges to snag your scarves.
That last style, BTW, looks great under a coat or jacket.

Hurrah! More great ideas for my enormous scarf collection. And of course I’ve ordered myself one of Mai Tai’s scarf rings (black). I’m going back for a mother-of-pearl when she’s got them in stock in December. I’ll be getting a lot more wear out of my carres.
The scarves in my collection that I’m having the most trouble with are the not-so-long oblongs. By that I mean they’re about 14 x 60-65 inches. They tend to look a little dorky in a hacking knot because their ends are short, and I never know what to do with them, except just a loose granny knot. Yawn.
Do you perhaps have some ideas? (Bats eyes winningly…)

Just purchased some scarf rings from Talbots and now I know how to use them. Great song too! One recommendation – sometimes your wording is quite large and you cannot see what you are doing behind the words.
Terrific! Especially like the horn; scarf rings look best if at the same level of quality as earrings. And a light or midweight vintage belt buckle (if as you say, smooth) makes a good scarf ring.

Also, I’m seriously thinking about altering a few of my vintage brooches and creating scarf rings out of them. I think that it would be a great way to integrate estate jewelry with my dressier scarves.
Parfait pour aujourd’hui! I wore a beautiful cashmere/silk Hermes of my mother’s today and just couldn’t get it right. I have a round scarf ring and will try some of your styling. It’s rather heavy and that seems to be my biggest problem. I need to buy a Chain d’ancre. After my mother passed away a few years ago, I inherited her scarf collection: it is all Hermes, Chanel, YSL and I love to wear them b/c I feel like she is with me. The cute part is that young women (in their 20s) oolala over them (maybe we’ll change a generation!).
LOVE IT! I am going right now to resuscitate my scarf ring (also from the ’80’s!) from my jewelry box!

I’ve wanted a Chain d’Ancre for some time and am so pleased to know that MaiTai sells a version. I have a black fur collar from her, and it is fantastic — a really beautiful way to use the Hermes scarves I’d kinda given up on wearing years ago.
You should get a fur scarf for your skiing trips!
By the way, I use my husband’s heavy gold wedding ring as a scarf ring. He was a bit heavier when we married 17 years ago, and it no longer fits him. A nice sentimental re-use of the ring, I think.

I have just got used to wearing scarves, but I’m still a bit nervous about utilizing a scarf ring. However, with this sort of encouragement, I believe I can contemplate doing so in the near future. I am always in a better mood after watching your charming tutorials.

St. Germain – first, love your handle! Heavy scarf rings can be tough to work with, especially if the fabric of the scarf is on the lighter or more slippery side. What a wonderful inheritance from your mother, how fabulous that you can wear those beautiful scarves and be reminded of her.
