Foulard de la semaine

“Jardins d’Hiver” scarf with scarf ring. Jacket is J.Crew navy linen, purchased recently. Because the collar has ruching detail, I wanted to keep the scarf simple.

The gold scarf ring is a horse bit design. I’ve had it for some years and don’t remember where I purchased it, but recently dug it out and put it back on active duty. I keep getting asked if it’s Gucci. (It’s not.)

  1. The answer to that question is always, “One fewer than I need.”

I have that scarf in the dark blue colorway — so gorgeous. I will say — I’m paranoid about wearing my scarves against skin that has perfume on it. Because I’m a big ol’ Frag Hag & wear something different every day, it’s not like my scarf would develop my “signature scent,” just a mess of clashing fragances. And I worry about the damage the ‘fume might do to the silk. I’m I being overly cautious?

  2. This is one of my favorites right now, and the green colorway looks great with the navy (and just about everything else in my closet!).

I really haven’t found les parfums to be an issue. If you just air the scarf out overnight, any perfume scent should fade. I do try to apply any fragrance a good 30 minutes before I put the scarves next to skin, to allow time for the alcohol to evaporate and the rest to soak in. I worry more about the sunscreen that I use on my neck yellowing the lighter colors, but so far that hasn’t happened.

  3. Jacket looks great with the scarf. Love the balance of the collar with the long length of the scarf. You wear it well.;-)

  4. The scarf’s a beauty. The pattern shows well when worn this way.

I’m finding real inspiration in your scarf posts. I’ve acquired some new ones recently, and am enjoying the luxury of silk against my neck.

  5. Great scarf, and I like the long, simple style of wearing it. Like Sue, I’ve been wearing more scarves lately, inspired by your ‘foulard’ posts. I haven’t purchased new ones, just resurrected some I’ve had for years that have been languishing unused because I was locked into wearing only the same three or four. My favorite ‘re-find’ has been the long, lovely, handpainted silk I bought in DC at the Textile Museum. Thanks for the push!

  6. franco fille – Thanks! I’ve found that having a scarf ring or two really helps for those days when none of the clever knots seems to be doing the trick.

Girlgriot – ooh, a handpanted silk! That sounds lovely.
