Les délices de France

Evening outside Cafe de Flore in Paris. More at une femme d'un certain age.

Travel is one of the things I’ve been missing most these last few months, especially to France. So for a little treat, here are some of my favorite images from prior trips.

That last photo is from our stay at Sharon Santoni’s lovely guest cottage in Normandy. During our visit, Sharon gave us a tour of the area, including her favorite farmer’s market, and we even toured a farmhouse for sale nearby. (I’m not going to pretend we weren’t tempted!)

My Stylish French Box from Sharon Santoni

Over lunch that day, Sharon told me about an idea she had for subscription gift boxes featuring unique items from French artisans and local brocantes. I thought it sounded formidable, and a few months later, My Stylish French Box was born!

Sharon creates four unique boxes per year. Each box is has a theme, and the theme for the August box was “dinner with friends.” So this box featured lovely items for the table.

Olive oil jug from Digoin, linen table runner from Charvet, and bamboo-handled salad servers from Sabre Paris. Details at une femme d'un certain age.

The contents are kept a surprise in advance, as half the fun is discovering what’s inside. I don’t know how Sharon does it, but each My Stylish French Box seems to surpass the one before. Above, a lovely eyelet linen table runner from Charvet, an olive oil jug by Digoin, and bamboo handled salad servers from Sabre Paris. (The jug looks black here, but it’s actually a deep blue.)

Rolled beeswax candles from Apis Cera in France. Details at une femme d'un certain age.

Rolled beeswax candles from Apis Cera. (I LOVE beeswax candles!!)

Serving tray from Au Bain Marie, an antique brooch, Pommery mustard and lavender oil roll on. Details at une femme d'un certain age.

On this pretty toile print serving tray, an antique brooch, a small roll-on vial of lavender oil (an extra gift for annual subscribers) and a jar of Pommery Moutarde de Meaux. (We always buy French mustards when we visit, so this was also a welcome treat!)

There’s also a charming botanical painting by Pierre Yves Bonnet. I already have a spot in mind for this one, just need to find a frame.

Though I’m missing France this year, My Stylish French Box has been a welcome “French fix,” and keeps me looking forward to our next visit.

The August box is sold out, but you can still order the November box. The theme is “Holiday Chic,” and these boxes make wonderful holiday gifts!

À bientôt!

  1. We went to Paris last July around Bastille Day and had a great time! We were lucky to miss the horrible heat wave that you were in when you were there! The only bad thing about the trip was I became ill three days before we left and spent those 3 days in bed! What a bummer! Turns out I was sitting next to someone who was sick on the plane!! But on my healthy days we went to the Louvre (for me, the hit of the trip. we spent 5 hours there and also had lunch on the outdoor patio on the second floor.) We went to the top of the Eifel Tower and also visited Versailles and Monet’s Garden and home in the countryside. I wish we had been able to see more of the Versailles. I loved the food and the desserts!

  2. Thank you Susan for sharing your beautiful photos. We have a chalet in the French speaking part of Switzerland and spend a lot of time in France. We are so sad that we are unable to go this year and looking at pictures is heartwarming! I loved everything in the last Stylish French Box especially the Pommery Moutarde de Meaux… I found a larger container of this delicious mustard on Amazon! It really adds a lot of zip to many recipes. So here’s hoping this craziness is over soon and we all are back traveling!

  3. Thank you for sharing the pictures. I live in Oregon and with all the fires and smoke it was such a gift to look at the lovely pictures and dream.

  4. Lovely images. Can you remind us again about your favorite or best camera(s)? Do you have one that is small and packable that you like?

  5. You made my day! Such a treat for the eyes to visit France through your lovely photos. Just warms my heart in these crazy days. Something to look forward to, one day. Love your blog and readers. I read it with my morning coffee.

  6. It’s fun looking at the various boxes. There’s just nothing like the smell of beeswax candles and lavender. The next favorite is the smell of green spruce I spray around Christmas time. One day I’ll find a pine or spruce candle. : )

  7. Ah! Beautiful! I am missing my visits to Prague 2-3 times a year (our oldest daughter and her family live there)! So this was a nice little taste of Europe.

  8. Twice this week I’ve had photo memories of our trip to Brittany and Normandy 3 years ago this week, on my iPad. Sigh. We were talking with a friend about how much we miss traveling and even planning a trip. Hopefully in 2021

  9. Thanks for bringing beauty and color into these difficult days. I had been waiting for the moment when I *had* to order the lovely French box, and this was that day, so thank you for that too!
